“Going International” Analysis Project (GIAP)

Purpose: to gain a deeper understanding, awareness and knowledge of how to analyze an


international business opportunity in order to make a good decision about “going
international”.
Length: 10 to 16 pages at 1.5 line spacing (NOT single spacing!)

PART ONE: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY (2-3 pages)


A. Cover Page (including target market, company and product name and group
member names)
B. Executive Summary
1. Describe the Vietnamese company you have chosen for the report. What are
its main product lines or services that have international market potential?
2. Where is the target market that you are considering?
3. Provide a weighted scaling of factors analysis that shows how you arrived at
your final decision to export/not export or monitor closely. (see “other GIAP
requirements” section)
4. Based on your analysis, what do you recommend the company to do?
a. Go international now (that is, export now)
b. Do not go international (do not export now)
c. Monitor closely, maybe in _____ months or years if _______
happens.)

PART TWO: FACTORS FOR ANALYSIS (8-14 pages)


In this section, you will analyze and develop the key factors that have most influenced your
“going international” decision. Remember to show/develop the link between the
information/research you find and its impact on your exporting decision!!!

Section I. Country Overview (no more than 1 page)

4. National enforcement of property rights (patents, trademarks, and
copyrights)
5. Presence of product safety and liability laws
6. Level and focus of taxation
D. International relations
1. General relations with other countries (key allies/adversaries)
2. Multilateral agreements with other nations

A. Economic system
1. Type of system (centrally planned, mixed, or market)
2. Fiscal and monetary policies

2. Level of black market activity

GIAP Schedule of Deadlines


Deadline 1(Session 2): Submit GIAP group information including:
1. the names of the people in your group
2. the sections for which each is responsible
3. the name of the Vietnamese company and the industry it is in
4. the name of the product (or product line) or service with international sales
potential.
5. select a group coordinator who will be the main spokesperson for the group
6. country (target market).

Deadline 2 (Session 6): Submit GIAP detailed outline


Deadline 3 (Session 14): Submit a final draft of GIAP report. I want a paper copy and an
electronic copy. Minimum of 10 pages. Maximum of 16 pages. You must space your paper
at 1.5 lines (not single or double-spaced). Your bibliography and appendices would not be
included in your number of pages.

Other GIAP requirements:


1. Each group will be making a presentation of their Project results. The first presentations
will begin on Session 14 and continue until the end of the term.

2. Your group will need to document the resources you use in your analysis – DO NOT USE
SOMEONE ELSE’S ANALYSIS and call it your own! That is cheating and the group will
receive an automatic “0” for the project.

3. BE SURE TO KEEP A RECORD OF THE WEBSITES YOU VISIT! In terms of


documentation, internet resources should at least include the following:
 the website address, the name of the section on the website, the title, the author, the
date and the number of pages.

4. You will need to use the internet to help you get as much information as you can. Below
