nth Term of an Arithmetic Sequence. Open your Module 3 in page 5. In the previous module,
we define arithmetic sequence and give the next term by adding a constant number. And now,
what about if the problem is to find the 100 th term or the 250th term? Can you find the terms?
Using the process that is illustrated above will take much of your time and effort. There is a
short cut in doing this and that is one of the foci of this module.

28 Radio Teacher: Before we find other higher terms of a sequence, let us first find lower terms. I
the arithmetic sequence: 3,8,13, 18…; what is the 15 th term?

following values.

32 Radio Teacher: Thus, the 15th term is 73. However, using this procedure to get any higher nth
term would be tedious. Thus, a formula is necessary to find any nth term.

difference as d, the formula is written as a n=a1+d(n-1).

numbers. Thus, we have to look for 4 numbers in between 5 and 25.

96 Let a1=5 and a6=25. We will insert a2,a3,a4,a5 as written in order as 5, a2,a3,a4,a5,25
97 We need to get the common difference. Let us use a 6=a1+5d to solve for d. Substituting the
given values for a6 and a1, we obtain 25=5+5d. So, d=4.
