About Jason

Jason “Storm” Nelson is a retired U.S. Army Soldier,


and former United States Marine. During his career as
a Civil Affairs Specialist, he has received awards for his
work in many large multi-national operations. Jason
spent the last 12 years in the USASOC community conducting international humanitarian
missions— including kinetic operations in Afghanistan & the Persian Gulf region.

Over the course of his Military and Professional career, Jason has:

• Planned and led over 350 missions in combat zones


• Acted as a policy advisor to key regional, national, and international leaders, specializing
in defense/governance policy
• Worked with and supervised over 50 foreign military organizations in joint training and
kinetic operations
• Planned and conducted over 250,000 personnel training hours in support of international
operations; awarded 3 Meritorious Service Medals
• Contributed to key military policies and doctrine to evolve the ADAPT sustainable
agriculture program - a critical public-private partnership utilized in Afghanistan and
Pacific Rim partners
• Served as the Vice-President for the Navy League of the United States (Santa Barbara
Chapter); awarded the US Army Volunteer Service Medal
• Planned and conducted annual training for some of the largest tactical organizations in
the military—including managing multi-million-dollar budgets with fiscal responsibility for
training and tactical operations, man hours, maintenance, and equipment.

During his military service, Jason studied for his undergrad in Mass Communications at Cal State
Channel Islands, continuing his studies at American Military University for the Disaster &
Emergency Management Graduate Program. He is a Distinguished Honor Graduate of both the
U.S. Army Civil Affairs Qualification Course, and U.S. Army Battle Staff.
Jason has worked in journalism, radio, and television; as a journalist, he has been published in
over 400 newspapers. During a deployment, he wrote a yearlong war journal for the Santa
Barbara News Press—while his work as a host in broadcast radio resulted in his team being
named a finalist for a Peabody (2009). He has also appeared in numerous television, radio, and
stage roles.

Jason and his wife, Amanda have three young children ages 6, 4, and 2, with another baby due in
May 2022. They enjoy visits to the zoo, rifle range, and historic sites throughout Texas.
