SONG THERAPY
PATIENT’S WINDOW TO SELF EXPRESSION

Let's get
started...
Title of the Song: HAWAK KAMAY
Artist of the Song: YENG CONSTANTINO

Reasons of choosing the song for this particular activity:

We choose this song because it says that you’re not alone it gives hope to those people
whose hopelessness, this song is one of the best song which inspire a lot of people not only for
normal people but also for our psychiatric patient, Also, the song has a wonderful melody and
tune that the patient can sing to which can easily sing and understand by individual, failures and
frustrations were just means for us to be more stronger during those hard times.

Personal views regarding the song as a therapeutic tool:

The message of the song “hawak kamay” tells us that we are not alone in facing our
problems in life, trials and challenges. There is always someone there for you to help you. Just
like our families, friends and of course the Lord who can help us overcome the problems we
face, by listening or singing this song you will realize that there’s someone out the there who’s
having a hard problem than yours.

Lyrics of the Song:

Minsan madarama mo kay bigat ng problema
Minsan mahihirapan ka at masasabing 'di ko na kaya
Tumingin ka lang sa langit
Baka sakaling may masusumpungan
O 'di kaya ako'y tawagin
PROCESSING THE ACTIVITY

1. What were your significant observations on your patient during the song therapy?

The patients were able to sing along with the song, express themselves through singing and
bopping their heads, and after hearing the music, some of the patients were more energetic,
lively, and cheerful. They’re also raising and waiving their hand while enjoying the music.

2. What lines from the song did your patient manifest emotional reactions?

'Wag mong sabihin nag-iisa ka

Laging isipin may makakasama
Narito ako oh, narito ako
Hawak-kamay
'Di kita iiwan sa paglakbay
Dito sa mundong walang katiyakan
Hawak-kamay
'Di kita bibitawan sa paglalakbay

3. How did you process the lyrics of the song with your patient?

The song's lyrics have the ability to stimulate emotions among listeners. Patients have a great
memory towards music. The song's tune and harmony made it easy to recall, while the lyrics
were repeated throughout the song, making it much easier to memorize and remember.

4. What new revelations did your patient had during and after the activity that you think is
relevant to your patient’s condition?
After the song therapy, we asked the patients how they felt during the activity we
prepared for them, and the majority of them said that they were happy and felt more at ease
hearing the song, they said that they relate with the lyrics of the song, and that they have realized
that even there are problems, they also want to sing more because they’re enjoying singing life
must go on.

.5. Were there significant changes in your patient’s mental and emotional behavior? What
were these noted changes?
Our patients changed significantly, both cognitively and behaviorally; they became more relaxed
and peaceful, livelier and happier; some of them also asked and talked to us happily, whereas
they were insistent to sing along and participate at the start of the exercise.
