Lesson Plan in Science Grade 10

I. Objectives:

A. Content Standard: The learners demonstrate understanding of (1) how

organisms as having feedback mechanisms, which are coordinated by the
nervous and endocrine systems; (2) how these feedback mechanisms help
the organisms maintain homeostasis to reproduce and survive.
B. Learning Competency: Describe the feedback mechanisms involved in
regulating processes in the female reproductive system
C. Specific Learning Outcome: Students are expected to:
a. Describe the effect of the female hormones in regulating menstruation
b. Make a diagram showing the feedback mechanism of hormones in
menstrual cycle
c. Differentiate positive and negative feedback mechanism in menstrual
cycle
d. Appreciate the value of balance and homeostasis

II. Content/ Topic: FEEDBACK MECHANISMS INVOLVED IN REGULATING

PROCESSESS IN THE FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM- MENSTRUATION

III. Learning Resources:

A. Reference
1. Teacher’s Guide: pages 293-295
2. Learner’s Material: Pages 415-421

IV. Procedure: Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

access to internet they will be given their

endocrine system? What are they? What thyroid gland,
are their function? parathyroid gland,

pancreas, adrenal

testes.
B. Statement of the
objective After our lesson, you are expected to:
a. Describe the effect of the
female hormones in
regulating menstruation
b. Make a diagram showing
the feedback mechanism
of hormones in

D. Presentation Today, let us discuss the feedback

mechanisms involved in regulating
processes in the female reproductive
system particularly in menstrual cycle.
E. Activity Now, you will go to your group and you will
Indicator 2 be given a task to do. You have to finish
the said task or activity for 15 minutes.
Now that you are done with the activity,
each group then will be given 5 minutes to
present your work.

Those students who are attending our class

through zoom will also be given chance to
share their activity with us.

F. Discussion Let us check your answer from your activity

Indicator 3 then discuss how hormones affect the
different processes in menstrual phases.

In your activity, what are the 4 hormones The hormones

that interact with each other? involved in the
activity are,
luteinizing hormone
(LH), Follicle
Stimulating Hormone
(LSH), Estrogen and
progesterone.

What glands are responsible for the release Pituitary gland is

of the said hormones? responsible for the
production and
release of LH and
FHS, while ovaries
are responsible for
estrogen and
progesterone.

How is egg development affected by Follicle stimulating

estrogen? hormone is
responsible for egg
development. But
Estrogen stops the
release of LSH. If
there is excessive
amount of estrogen
released, FSH will
then be affected and
so egg will not
developed.

If the pituitary gland

release of egg cell.

Menstruation
depends on the
How does menstruation affected by hormone secreted by
hormones LH, FHS, estrogen and the gland. Pituitary
progesterone? gland will release
Follicle Stimulating
Hormone (FSH) to
the ovaries. Which
causes the follicles
to develop into a
mature egg cell.
The ovaries
will then secrete
estrogen to stop
the release of LHS.
Pituitary
gland secretes
luteinizing hormone
that is responsible
mature egg cell to
be released from
the ovary
(ovulation) to the
fallopian tube.
The sac
where the mature
egg came from
(corpus luteum),
produced
progesterone to
thicken the lining of
the uterus. If the
egg in the fallopian
tube is not fertilized
by the sperm, the
lining of the uterus
shed off together
with the unfertilized
egg out of the
vagina
(menstruation).

The hormones that

increase fertility
What are the hormones that increase among women are
fertility on women? the Leutinizing
hormone and follicle
stimulating hormone.

Let us no connect the functions of

reproductive hormones to the phases of
menstruation.

The teacher will present the table .

Phases of Menstrual Cycle
Name of
Phase Days Events
Menstrual
Phase 1–4 Menstruation occurs
Follicular Follicle matures and
Phase
5–13 endometrium
develops
Ovulation Ovary releases an

On the menstrual phase, the pituitary gland

produces follicle stimulating hormone that
gradually helps the follicle to develop into a Follicle stimulating

estrogen are needed
What are then the hormone/s needed in in the follicular

Correct. FSH is needed to develop a mature

egg and if the egg matures, estrogen is
released from the ovary to stop the
production of FSH. In the ovulation
phase, the ovary will

To understand more about the topic, let me

show you a video.

G. Application: Contraceptive pills

How does contraceptive pill containing contain estrogen that

pregnancy? production of follicle
stimulating hormone
that helps egg cell to
develop and mature.
Since there will be no
mature egg that
develops, there will
be fertilization that
will happen.

H. Generalization:
The diagram below shows the feedback In negative feedback,
mechanism in regulating the menstrual rising levels of
hormones feedback
cycle. What is the difference between
to the  gland
negative and positive feedback?
(hypothalamus and
pituitary gland) to
decrease the
production of the
hormones. In positive
feedback, rising
levels of hormones

increase hormone

and insufficient amount of hormone?

Exact amount of

balance in body
functioning.
V. Evaluation:

1. Match the hormones in column A with their effects in column B. write the letter of
the correct answer on the space provided.

Column A Column B

___ 1. Estrogen a. Responsible for thickening and

shedding off of the lining of uteus
___ 2. Luteinizing hormone b. Develops egg cell

___ 3. Progesterone c. Triggers ovulation

___ 4. Follicle Stimulating hormone d. Stops the release of FSH and causes
LH secretion

2. Draw a diagram showing the interaction of hormones from the glands that affects
menstrual cycle. Use arrow to show the positive and negative feedback on the
process.

VI. Assignment: (Indicator #1)

Using your art materials, make a poster that promotes reproductive health on
women. This is also to support the women’s month.
