Introduction
A helical staircase is a
staircase that is curved in
plain and following the
directrix of a full helix.

In three-dimensional space, a
helical surface is generated by
moving a straight line such
that the moving line is
perpendicular to the helix.

Types of helical staircases
Two types of helical staircases in RCC construction (depending on slab underneath):
• Here the waist slab supports
the risers and treads.
• It is the main structural
element of staircase.
• It thickness should be 100-
200mm.
Inner soffit
• Simply can be called curved

sawtooth staircases.
• The waist slab supporting
risers and treads is absent.

Construction process (in RCC)

• Main centre is established. • Planks are raised • Planks are joined side by
• Inner or/and outer curve vertically according to the side.
is drawn and plotted on rising height of staircase. • Markings of particular
the base level. steps are marked.

• Concrete is poured and supports are
