Master's Programme in Education with International and Comparative Specialisation

Dear Selection Committee,
I am writing to express my interest in the Master's Programme in Education with International and Comparative
Specialisation as it has been my career objective to become an expert in educational research particularly in the
field of Planning, Management and Policy with an aim to contribute in delivering quality education.

I hold two degrees, one in Economics & other in Early Childhood Development (ECD). My academic work in
Economics has provided me skills to critically analyze the developmental issues around the world. During my first
job in a reputed institute, I have realized the interconnectedness between education and development to create
successful systems, the benefits of quality education and nurturing environments to shape who we are and what
we can become. To obtain a foundation on how children learn & develop, I completed a MSc. degree in ECD.
This degree has enlightened me the importance of developmentally appropriate curriculum, the impact of poor
teaching-learning practices and assessment systems that drive many children out of schools. Last 10 years I
have been working with curriculum design, pedagogy, assessment, teachers’ training, materials development
and so on. Now as a Faculty Member, I have developed a keen research interest particularly in education
policies, practices, planning, management in the context of global change and also like to extend my knowledge
base on analyzing educational phenomena and situations efficiently to solve problems. Hence, I am writing to
express my sincere interest to enroll the thesis-based route of this Master’s programme in Education.

I have gained experiences most relevant to this program during my engagement with various projects with BRAC
IED, BRAC University. As a team leader of Curriculum-Teaching-Learning unit, I was engaged with an action
research project which has been designed to provide non-formal education to disadvantaged students.
Throughout this project, I noticed the distinct features of non-formal model, learned how professionals need to
develop curriculum, pedagogy to address these children’s’ diverse needs & the rigorous planning to manage the
centers. During my attachment with Nobodhara School project as a coordinator of Early Grades, I got numerous
scopes to see how a private school functions and what are the deciding factors of a school’s success in a
competitive market. Under the DFID Textbook projects in Bangladesh & Pakistan, I have gained hands on
experience in revising, refining and developing national textbooks, TGs and training manuals. My skills have
escalated when reviewed and developed the play-based curriculum (for 0-5 years children) of BRAC’s Social
Enterprise model in Tanzania. Work experiences in these countries have provided me a window of opportunity to
compare the curriculum, teaching-learning practices and capacity development model of teachers. Currently I
have been working as a Senior Research Associate and a Faculty Member of ECD program, where I teach,
coordinate courses and supervise thesis. As part of my thesis I conducted a study on Early Literacy & School
Readiness and involved with a descriptive research on Framing ECD in Bangladesh. So far, I have supervised
the qualitative study of 6 students.

As per my understanding, the structure of this program is an extensive one that critically analyzes & connects
theory, research and practices; insightfully examines diverse global models of education and deals with various
approaches of research in terms of planning, management and policy development. Hence, I would like to
pursue this degree with a high ambition of becoming proficient in these areas and progress towards achieving
scholarly knowledge. I believe this prestigious degree which has a focus on interdisciplinary scientific inquiry of
education problems, will provide me required skills to conduct more academic research independently and make
me ready for pursuing Ph.D. in near future. Keeping in mind my past academic and professional experiences, I
am confident that I would be able to add value to this specific program. Thank you for your time and considering
my application.
Sincerely,
XXX
