    CLASS X- Data Interpretation and Analysis

    Data Interpretationis used to interpret the facts that have been presented in the form of table, graph or chart.
    The data has to be analyzed and utilized by the student to write a paragraph, providing factual information as well
    as interpretation. (MM:10, word limit: 100-150 words)

    Difference between Paragraph Writing and Data Interpretation


    • A paragraph can be written on any topic but in data interpretation, the data given has to be interpreted and the
    information given in a paragraph.
    • A paragraph consists of several sentences that deal with a single subject.
    • A paragraph written for data interpretations has to give the details of the specified data in a precise, simple and
    crisp way. The sentences should be short, simple and clear.

    POINTS TO REMEMBER
    • Read the data carefully. Don’t overlook even a single word.
    • If there are more than one graphs/charts/tables then understand the relationship between them.
    • Don’t calculate or interpret things which have not been given in the data
    • Be careful in reading and interpreting units, charts and tables.
    • Interpret the data in a logical and systematic manner avoiding repetition and unnecessary details.
    • Write an introductory line describing what the given chart, table or graph shown and then go on to briefly
    summarize the data and report the main points of your analysis.
    • Remember to use correct grammatical language and give a title to your paragraph(It has to be written as a
    single paragraph)

    has increased considerably during recent years.

    establishing peace in society.

    Educated youth can play a major role in establishing peace in society (100 words)
    Youth of a country are its future and can play an important role in establishing peace. A survey conducted has
    revealed that the number of deaths due to violence has increased enormously since the nineties. A death rate of 2.5
    in 1990s increased steadily to 7.5 by 2010. The situation indicated is grave and must be checked. The youth can
    play a major role in controlling this crime graph but they must be educated, responsible and progressive. They can
    contribute towards establishing peace in the country. They can awaken people towards responsible citizenship and
    generate employment. Hence, educated youth are the torch bearers for peace and progress.

    Exercise-1
    Study the given graph. It is based on a
    survey done on class X students in three
    different types of schools in Ahmedabad.
    The chart depicts the number of students
    speaking English and Hindi. On the basis of
    the details given in the bar-graph, briefly
    summarize the data making comparison
    wherever necessary in about 100-150
    words.

    schools giving the possible reasons.
