THE STEEL CITY JAZZ FESTIVAL IS BACK IN HISTORIC LINN PARK


HEADLINERS INCLUDE THE INCOMPARABLE ISLEY BROTHERS, SAXOPHIST BONEY JAMES,
R & B SENSATION MUSIQ SOULCHILD AND JAZZ FUSION ARTIST JONATHAN BUTLER

Birmingham, AL, April 4, 2022--After a hiatus, that included two years of the pandemic, the Steel City
Jazz Fest is back, bringing live music to Birmingham’s historic Linn Park, under a new name, The Steel
City Smooth Jazz Fest. The City of Birmingham partners with Empowerment Inc. to present real smooth
jazz and R & B, with an international flair, as a pre-lude to Birmingham hosting the World Games 2022.

Headlining this year’s Steel City Smooth Jazz Festival are Grammy Winner Isley Brothers, Grammy
Nominated Saxophonist Boney James, Grammy nominated South African Jazz Fusion Guitarist/Singer
Jonathan Butler, and R & B sensation Musiq Soulchild. They are part of a phenomenal jazz festival that
will span two days on Friday, June 17th and Saturday, June 18th. SCSJF Organizer Cedric Allen said, “We
are working to make the return of the Steel City Smooth Jazz Festival an unsurpassed live musical
experience unlike any other music festival anywhere in the nation.” Allen continued, “Working with our
in-kind sponsor, The World Games 2022, festival attendees can expect some global surprises.”

The Steel City Smooth Jazz Festival draws music fans from across the country and international jazz
lovers who travel to Birmingham to enjoy the experience of our Jazz Festival, which features a non-stop
lineup of top artists and a group of diverse vendors from throughout the southeast, who bring amazing
food offerings, awesome artwork, unique merchandise and untold memories.

The Linn Park atmosphere on the lawn never disappoints as the festival transforms the park into a fun-
filled family reunion. Gates open on Friday, June 17th at 4:00PM, with the first act taking the stage at
5:00PM. On Saturday, June 18th, the gates open at 11AM, with the first act performing at Noon.

In addition to the headliners, festival goers will enjoy violinist Damien Escobar, soulful jazz soloist
Maysa, Grammy Winner Kirk Whalum, Saxophonists Marion Meadows, Vincent Ingala, Euge Groove,
Kyle Turner and Grammy Winner Eric Marienthal, along with guitarists Grammy nominated Chieli
Municci, Peter White, Birmingham Native Eric Essix, and Dave Livolsi. Joining them are pianist Lao Tizer,
Japanese keyboardist Keiko Matsui, Jazz Fusion artist Jeff Lorber, and vocalist Karen Briggs.
