Dear G-12 Learner,
How are you today? I hope you’re always doing fine.
Are you ready for our new topic?
Do you wonder how the statements of a research
problem are formulated?
In this module, we will learn to appreciate how to
formulate a statement of research problem. It might that a lot
of questions are bugling on your mind when your teachers
ask you to make a statement of research problem. Like, how
do I start and where can I get some ideas?
In addition, this module will guide you how the
quantitative and qualitative may differ in method of
presentation. Together, we will learn all these concepts using
this module.

Hello SHS learners... Do you know the importance


of a statement of the problem in research?

A statement problem is an area of concern that


requires a meaningful understanding of a specific topic, a
condition, a contradiction, or a difficulty that exists in
scholarly literature, in theory, or in practice that points to
the need for meaningful understanding and deliberate
investigation.
In addition, the following must be observed, it
should address a gap in knowledge; it should be
significant enough to contribute to the existing body of
research; should render itself to investigation through
collection of data and should be of interest to the
researcher and suit to his/her skills, time and resources

you are fully equipped and ready to do your task today.
Note: To the Learner, the following exercise below is the most basic process in order for you to
formulate your statement of the research problem. You need to distinguish your topic, research
problem, purpose statement and research questions, so that you can create a statement of the
research problem. An example is provided for you to follow.
