Topic: Phrasal verb related to money
The general objective of the lesson: To enable students identify clues to solve a murder case
and use past tense accurately while presenting their arguments verbally and through written text.
Specific objectives: Pre-Reading- Students recognize the prompting questions for
investigations by analyzing 3 comic strips about
investigation and verbally respond to the teacher’s
questions.
While reading- Within 20 minutes, students comprehend their own
character descriptions and use prompting questions to
get clues from all the main characters by filling the
worksheet provided in groups of 5 using past tense
to find out the murderer.
Post Reading- In 15 minutes, students roleplay as detectives and
one or more representatives from each group
verbally present arguments and their final judgments
regarding who the murderer is.

(pre-stage activity), worksheets (while activity), props (while and post activity), PowerPoint
slides (pre-stage, while and post activity).
Websites and softwares used: Canva, Storyboard That, Slides Carnival, Avatar Maker and
Sony Vegas Pro 13.

PROCEDURE:

Lead-in activity steps

Time: 5 minutes
1. Teacher plays a video about the background
Material: Video information of the murder case that happened at a reunion,
(Bertha to help them predict the topic and content of the lesson.

3. Teacher inform students that the focus of this lesson is to
identify alibi, motives and clues to solve a murder case and
use past tense, a grammar item they have learned before,
accurately while presenting their arguments verbally and
through written text.

While-Activity Steps

Time: 20 minutes 1) Each student is given an envelope containing their character


cards and a mission for the “find the murderer” game.
Material: Music, 2) Students that are assigned to be the detectives, form groups of

8) In groups, students discuss the clues and figure out who the
murderer is and prepare their pieces of evidence and judgments.
9) Teacher acts as facilitator during the game.

Post-Stage Steps
Time: 27 minutes
1. Teacher gives instruction regarding the role play activity
Material: Props displayed on the slides.
Instruction:
To catch the murderer, you need to present your findings as
detectives after all the clues and evidence that your group
have found.
i. The students who role-played as suspects gets into the
same group as the detectives based on the alphabet written
on their cards.
ii. Every group have 5 minutes to present their judgments
and you are allowed to pick only one main character to be
the real murderer.
iii. You may take into account:-
- Justifications for choosing the character as the
murderer.
- Reasons the other characters were not involved in
the murder.
iii. Make sure to not exceed the time limit which is 5
minutes.
2. Students present their roleplay in front of the class using the
props given and are monitored by teacher.
3. Teacher act as a judge in a court and respond to students’
judgments.
4. To conclude the class, teacher asks the students to orally
state what they have learnt today and teacher briefly
explains the benefit of the lesson.
