CHAPTER 1
1.INTRODUCTION
Building construction includes the construction of residential and non-
residential buildings, commercial and institutional buildings, etc.
Infrastructure construction includes the construction large public works
such as dams, highways, railways, etc. Infrastructure is also called as
heavy civil or heavy engineering..

Construction is a process of constructing a building or infrastructure.

Building Construction is the process of adding structure to real property.
Construction of buildings and infrastructures plays an important role in
the development of countries. Construction differs from manufacturing in
which involves mass production of similar items without a designated
purchaser, while construction it takes place on location for a known
client.

Construction starts with planning of building or infrastructure for

construction, design of layout for construction and financing or costing
require for construction. A small scale construction includes the
construction of houses, residential apartments, buildings, etc. Large
scale construction includes constructions of Residential projects,
bridges, infrastructures, etc. Large scale construction requires
collaboration of multiple disciplines, sometimes it referred as mega
projects.

Building constructions are made of public construction and private

construction. Public construction includes the construction under
government projects such as building of offices, construction of bridges,
railways, highways, mega projects, etc. Private construction includes the
construction of houses, apartments and complexes, private building
projects, etc.

5
In general, there are three types of constructions:
 Building
 Infrastructure
 Industrial

Building construction includes the construction of residential and non-

residential buildings, commercial and institutional buildings, etc.

Infrastructure construction includes the construction large public works

such as dams, highways, railways, etc. Infrastructure is also called as
heavy civil or heavy engineering.

Industrial construction is used for construction of industrial structures

includes manufacturing plants, factories, company layouts, power
generation mills, etc.

Construction of Buildings Foundation:

There are several types of foundations are used in the constructions

such as pile foundation, pad foundation, raft foundation, spread footing,
etc. The selection of foundation depends upon the soil condition and the
amount of load applies on the foundation. It depends upon the heavy
load such as the several stories of a building apply on the foundation
and the condition of soil.

Concrete and Reinforced Concrete:

Concrete is also called as RCC since along with the concrete

reinforcement is also present. There are various grades are available of
concrete form M15 to M40 and special grades from M60 to M80. The
mix concrete grades can be proportion of M sand, coarse sand, slag,
cement and slag, ash, water. Those grades of concrete are mixed in a
lab for several days to check the strength of concrete and after that the
suitable concrete is used at the construction site.

2. REVIEW OF LITERATURE
The objective of this study is to link different but similar themes in the
topic such as rework, building disruption, defects and variations. To
meet this objective, three methods were
Applied to study the current literature. They are
(1) A systematic review of building quality overall;
(2) Thematic analysis and
(3) Gap analysis of building quality.
A classification system of quality errors and omissions and their
relevance to each lifecycle stage was further designed. The systematic
review of the aspects of building quality was chosen to determine how
the data can be brought together through themes and classifications.
Xiao and Watson (2019) recognise the need to perform a systematic
literature review to find the current state and gaps of the topic in
question. The study also recommends narrowing the selection criteria to
ensurethe aim is not too broad (Xiao and Watson, 2019). Hence, a
period of the most recent 20 years was chosen for the search, being
2000–2020 to ensure the review was manageable. The review study is
a mixed method, combining the systematic map to determine gaps and
the qualitative systematic review to determine themes (Grant and
Booth, 2009). The research design was developed according to
systematic literature review methods from the literature(Mengist et al.,
2020) and (Xiao and Watson, 2019). This design involves determining
the research question and scope, defining the search strategy,
searching for studies, selecting and quality assessing the studies,
synthesising the data found and reporting on the findings (Mengist et
al., 2020) and (Xiao and Watson, 2019)

CHAPTER 3

3. OBJECTIVE

 Developed knowledge of material science and behavior of various

building materials used in constructions.

 Identify the construction materials required for the assigned work.

 Provide procedural knowledge of the simple testing method of cement,

lime & concrete.

8
CHAPTER 4

4. OBSERVATION

9
Day 1: Visit the Site.

Day 2: Observe the building materials such as bricks, sand & Cement.

Day 3 to Day 10

1. Use bricks of good quality with uniform color, well-burnt, with

Specific sizes and shapes.

2. Two methods of testing are sometimes useful for assessing masonry.

Probe holes can be drilled through the joints or masonry units with a

masonry bit and probed with a stiff wire (or, if available, a fiber optic

device) to determine a walls thickness and the adequacy of its mortar.

3. Bricks should not absorb water from the mortar. ...

Day 11 to Day 13

4. which is a mixture of lime or cement concrete and sand along with the
required quantity of water.

5. Plastering conceals defective workmen ship and covers up unsound and

cheap quality material..

6. Plastering on external walls is done with the object of improving the

resistance of the surface to rain water penetration and other
atmospheric influences.

7. Plastering protects surfaces against vermin.

Day 14 to Day 15

The painting work procedure is the finishing item in any construction.

Painting affects the total appearance of a building from inside and outside.
Therefore, it should be carried out with the great skill of workmanship.

10
CHAPTER 5

5. CONCLUSION

1. Durability of a building depend mainly on proper construction process

and proper use of materials..

2. As per my training ,I have conclude that, during my training days I

was familiar with the construction of brick masonry & plastering and
other works under a CONSTRUCTION OF DEVNAR BLIND
SCHOOL BULIDING .

3. Plaster is necessary to cover and protect the masonry from weathering

factor.
