1. Presentation

Okay class, can you look around? Yes, ma’am. We see objects moving in
How would you describe most of the
different motions. Some of them move by
objects you see?
themselves and some are mechanical.

a. Show pictures that shows the

different situations that involve
application of forces

i. A man rowing a boat

(Students listen and observe the pictures)

B.A flying airplane

C.A boy pulling his pet dog

D.A man riding a bike

above?

What do you observe? We observe that they move through a

motion ma’am.

What can you say about moving There is force need enable they can move
vehicles and running animals? ma’am.

Have you ever asked yourself what Yes, and we would like to know it ma’am.
causes these things to move?

Today we would going to discuss the

Newton's Three Laws:

But first let me introduce to you who

formulated the three laws of motion.
(Student’s Listen)
Isaac Newton is an English physicist and
a mathematician who formulated the
Three Laws of motion.

He is one of the most influential scientist

and his ideas became the basis of
modern physics.

a) Law of Inertia: (First Law) States

that: - An object at rest will remain
at rest, and an object in motion
remain in motion at constant
velocity, unless acted upon by an
unbalanced force.

First, an object which is moving at a

constant velocity or at a state of rest
does not change its state unless a
force acts upon it.

Example of law of inertia. Inertia can

be observed when you are in a bus.
Initially the bus is at rest. When it
starts to move, your body has a
tendency to move backward. On the
other hand when the bus suddenly
stops, your body has the tendency to
move forward. When the bus either
starts to move or suddenly stops your
body has the tendency to change your
state of motion.

Can you guys give your own example of it? (Students sharing ideas)

b) Law of Acceleration (second Law)

States that: The acceleration of an (Student’s Listen)
object is directly proportional to the
magnitude of a net force, and follows
the direction of a net force, while it
is inversely proportional to the mass
of an object.

Second is an acceleration of an
object increases as the amount of
force causing the acceleration
increases when mass is constant.

Weight- is a measure of the force of

gravity on the mass of an object.

Example of law of acceleration:

F= ma

Now, try to solve for this: (Students trying to solve)

Rolls a 200 g baseball horizontally
on the floor with a net force of 2N to
the right.

c) Interaction (3rd Law) States that: -

For every action there is an equal
and opposite reaction.

Example of Law of Interaction:

When a boy pushes the wall ( action)
the wall exerts an equal and opposite
magnitude of force the boy (
reaction)
Thank you ma’am, now we can clearly
And lastly for every force, there is an
differentiate the three laws of motion.
equal and opposite force.
C. Evaluation

Ask their opinion individually on how

will the worlds would be without
motion.

D. Generalization

The teacher will ask the students:

How do the three laws of motion relate
in our daily life experiences in general.

What are the importance of studying and

understanding the different laws of
motion, and how does it affects you, as
individual.

IV. ASSESSMENT
Short quiz about the discussion.

I. Direction: Choose the letter of correct answer.

1. Which law states that forces act with equal magnitude and in opposite direction?

A. Law of Inertia
B. Law of Interaction
C. Law of Acceleration
D. Law of Gravitational Force
2. For every ______ there is an equal and opposite ______.

A. action, action
B. reaction, action
C. action, reaction
D. reaction, reaction
3. What Newton’s law of motion requires the use of seat belt in cars?
A. Law of Inertia
B. Law of Interaction
C. Law of Acceleration
D. Law of Universal Gravitation
4. A stone hits the ground before a flat sheet of paper because ______.
A. it is less massive
B. it is more massive
C. the acceleration of gravity is greater on the stone
D. there is more air resistance against the flat surface
5. Which of the following phenomena applies the first law of motion?
A. A leaf sways back and forth falling from a tree.
B. When a ball falls on the floor, the ball bounced back up.
C. When pushed with the same force, a car accelerates slower than a grocery cart.
D. When a cardboard with a coin on top is suddenly pulled, the coin falls into the
glass.

6. According to the second law of motion, the net force is the product of mass and
acceleration. Which of the following has the greatest acceleration?
A. A 500 kg stone pulled with a 10 N net force
B. A 0.5000 kg toy car is pulled with a 9 N net force
C. A 7.000 kg metal ball is pushed by a 17 N net force
D. A 500.0 kg truck accelerated by 1000 N net force from its engine
7. In a grocery store, you can easily push a cart with 5 kg sack of rice than a cart with a 10
kg sack of rice to the counter. Which of these explain the situation?
A. Law of Inertia
B. Law of Interaction
C. Law of Acceleration
D. Law of Universal Gravitation
II. Answer the question and identify what law of motion is being asked. (3pts.)
Question: Why should we wear seatbelts – use one of Newton’s Laws in your answer.

V. ASSIGNMENT

Direction: Identify the law of motion that applies in each situation.

Situation Type of Law of Motion

1. Throwing garbage on the river would go
back to the community during the floor
season.
2. It is easier to push an empty shopping cart
than the loaded one.

3. The baseball is thrown into the air after

being hit by the bat.
4. When walking, your foot pushes the
ground backward, and the ground pushes
your foot forward,
5. A runner who reaches the finish line must
continue running for some time.
