Blended Learning Lesson Plan

Lesson Title:

Physical Education Volleyball Lesson

Objectives

Students will be able to:

Play a full game of volleyball without confusion

Master all necessary volleyball skills needed for playing

State Standards

• 5-2.1 Identify critical elements/learning cues of a skill to improve personal performance

and provide feedback to others in fundamental movement skills and specialized game

skills (for example, making a triangle to set the volleyball).

• 5-2.2 Identify basic offensive and defensive strategies in modified game situations (for

example, moving to open space while in a three-on-two situation).

Context

This lesson is a third through fifth grade lesson about basic volleyball skills and learning the

game. Not only do they learn volleyball skills and the game, but they learn offensive and

defensive strategies as well as giving feedback to others in crucial movement skills. Im teaching

this lesson because I think it is a good concept to know in life. It is also a fun lesson and makes

students look forward to class throughout the day. Before this lesson, students had lessons on

other sports so they have experience and a bit of knowledge coming into this lesson. After this
lesson the students will know the basic skills of volleyball and how to apply them into a full

match.

Data

The students will be grouped in pairs. There will be a group with little experience and a group

with more experience. The purpose of this is so they will be comfortable playing with their

partner.

Closure Kahoot game

Introduction (20 minutes):

This lesson will be taught at the beginning of class. The students will come into class, put their

belongings away and take a seat in their assigned floor spot. I will start by asking the students

if they have ever played volleyball before or have any type of experience. Then I will start to

explain the different basic skills used in volleyball. There will be 5 skills I will have

demonstrated. I will then group the students up into pairs. The students will have 2 minutes

per skill to practice with their partner.

Teacher directed (15 minutes):

In this portion of the lesson, I will talk about the volleyball skills I explained and demonstrated.

I will ask all the students along with their partner to show the class the skill they felt like they

achieved the best. After each group shows off their skill, I will critique them, so they learn

what they did right or wrong.

Collaborative (20 minutes):

At the collaborative station, my students will be grouped in pairs to practice their volleyball

skills. They will have 3 minutes to practice for each skill they learned. While practicing, one

partner will use the camera on their iPad to video tape their partner using the volleyball skill

they’ve been taught. This is so they can see how they look and if they are doing anything wrong.

Independent digital (10 minutes):

During this portion of the lesson the students will be playing a video game on their iPad. Spike

volleyball is a video game that allows people to play matches against other players. This

game is made to be very realistic and uses teamwork to practice volleyball skills.

.
Closure (10 minutes):
At the end of the lesson the class will participate in a Kahoot game about what they have learned that

day. They will use their iPads to play this. I will use Kahoot as the end of class activity in order to see

what my students have learned during that class period. After the Kahoot game I will randomly

select a few students to demonstrate volleyball skills to see how well, they have achieved it.
