IV. Procedures
Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson
Start the lesson by showing a video of a weather forecast then asked the questions that follows.

1. What was the video about?  The video was about a weather forecast where there is
a typhoon approaching Philippines.

2. What are the important factors we usually look  Strength, Center, Diameter/radius and the direction of
while watching a weather forecast? the typhoon.

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson

The data below were given in the weather forecast you watch. Let us plot the typhoon in a
weather map in order for us to know whether we are affected or not by the upcoming typhoon. Remind the
class to observe safety protocols during the conduct of the activity.
The teacher will provide a circle with a
center that represents the typhoon except in the Plotting
4th and 5th data.
a. 07 : 00 pm - 7° N , 130° E
b. 08 : 00 pm - 8° N , 127° E
c. 09 : 00 pm - 9° N , 124° E
d. 10 : 00 pm - 12° N , 120° E
e. 11 : 00 pm - 16° N , 117° E
3. Are we affected by the upcoming typhoon and Yes, because we are inside the radius of the typhoon.
why?
4. How about in the 4 th and 5th data, are we really No, because the given figure does not have its center to
sure about the location of the typhoon and why? plot in the given coordinates.
5. What geometric figure does the typhoon look Circle
like?
5. What 2 factors we need to consider in plotting Center and radius
a circle?
6. How about we are just given the equation (x – No
2)2 + (y – 3)2 = 16 that corresponds to a circle, can
you easily graph the circle?

That is why our discussion will be the Center, Radius and Graph of a Circle given its Standard
Equation.
The objectives are as follows:
a. Determines the center and radius of a circle given its standard equation. M10GE-IIh-2
b. Graph a circle on a coordinate plane given its standard equation. M10GE-IIi-1

C. Presenting Examples / Instances of the lesson

Divide the class into 3 groups and give them the activity sheet below using GeoGebra. Remind the
class to observe safety protocols during the conduct of the activity.
D. Discussing new concept #1

Asked the following questions to develop the lesson:

1. How does h and k affect the graph of the h moves the circle going to left and right while k move
circle? the circle going up and down.
2. What is point P in the circle and how does h Point P is the center of the circle. The value of h and k is
and k affect point P in terms of its coordinates? the coordinates of the center.
3. What does r represents in the circle? r represents as the radius of the circle
4. How does the value of h, k and r affect the the value of h is being subtracted to x, k is being
equation of the circle? subtracted to y and r is the resulting expression.
5. Give at least 3 examples of the resulting Giving examples
equation when you move h, k and r and give the
coordinates of the center and the measure of the
radius.
6. How about without using GeoGebra, what is  Center: (5 , 1 ); radius: 5
the center and radius of the circle if we have the
equation (x – 5 )2 + (y – 1 )2 = 25?
7. How about without using GeoGebra, what is  Center: ( - 2 , - 3 ); radius: 2
the center and radius of the circle if we have the
equation ( x + 2 )2 + ( y + 3 )2 = 4?

E. Discussing new concept #2

Asked the class to find a partner and do the activity.

Bilugin Mo Ako!!!

Graph the circle in a coordinate plane given its center and radius.

1st Member - Center: ( 5 , 1 ); radius: 5 2nd Member - Center: ( - 2 , - 3 ); radius: 2

1. What is the first thing you do to graph the  Plot the center
circle?
2. After plotting the center of the circle what is  Plot points that corresponds the radius in 4 opposite
the next step? directions
3. After plotting the center and radius what is the  Draw a smooth curve passing the four points around
next step to draw the circle? the center
4. Can you suggest some techniques in graphing a  Use compasses to perfectly draw the circle
circle?
F. Developing Mastery
Divide the class into 3 groups.
The Center of my Life!!!

Identify the Center and Radius of the circle given its standard equation. Every correct answer
corresponds to a piece of figure to be formed at the end of the activity. Graph the circles using Geogebra.

C ( - 2 , 7 );
r=4

1. ( x + 2 )2 + ( y – 7 )2 = 16
2. ( x – 5 )2 + ( y – 2 )2 = 1
3. ( x – 7 )2 + ( y + 4 )2 = 25
4. ( x – 5 )2 + ( y – 2 )2 = 9
5. x 2 + y 2 = 36
6. What image have you formed after doing the activity?
7. Are the images formed the same?

We may be in different status, some are short and some are tall. Some are complete but some are
not. Every one of us have different colors, but just like every circle there is only one center and always
remember that whatever life we have always make GOD the center of our life.

G. Making Generalization

1. How do we identify the center and radius of a We can identify the center of a circle in its standard
circle given its standard equation? equation by identifying the value of h and k and we can
identify the radius by identifying the value of r.

2. How do we graph a circle? Plot the center, identify the radius, plot points around
the center that correspond to the measure of the
radius.

H. Evaluating Learning
Divide the group into 3 and give task card in every group. Present the output after the activity.

Group 1 – Determine the center and radius of a circle given its standard equation and make a human graph of
the circle in a coordinate plane and take a selfie of the graph.

Group 2 – Determine the center and radius of the circles given its standard equations and graph the circle in a
coordinate plane.

Group 3 - Determine the center and radius of the circles given its standard equations and graph the circle to
complete the hidden image.

I. Assignment

Turn the following standard equations of a circle into its General form.
1. ( x + 2 )2 + ( y – 7 )2 = 16 2. ( x – 5 )2 + ( y – 2 )2 = 1 3. ( x – 7 )2 + ( y + 4 )2 = 25
