2. UNPACKING, STORAGE & HANDLING
2.1 UNPACKING

A visual inspection to ascertain that no damage has been suffered

by the equipment during transit should be done. In case any
damage is observed, same should be brought to the notice of M/s.
FABRICONS.

2.2 STORAGE

Equipment should be stored in clean, moisture-free place and

checked periodically. Special precaution should be taken when
equipment is stored for a period longer than 60 days & kept idle,
to avoid corrosion of hardware / metallic parts. Before switching
on, equipment should be thoroughly cleaned using vacuum
cleaner.

2.3 HANDLING

PLC Based Galley Call Bell System contains parts like PLC, Lamps,
Push Buttons, Hooters & Relays and therefore should be handled
carefully.

3.1 TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION

PURPOSE: -

The purpose of Galley Call Bell system is to facilitate Sr. Officer’s of

ship to call Galley or Pantry staff to their cabins for ordering food
etc.

The call panels provided in following cabins

1. CO’s Day Cabin

2. EO’s Cabin

3. LO’s Cabin

4. Ward Room

5. XO’s Cabin

A common Audio Visual Alarm Panel is provided at Galley and

Pantry Each.

OPERATION

Suppose an Officer in LO’s cabin wants a Staff from Galley or

Pantry to attend to him, he will press respective call Push Button.
This will initiate an Audio Visual alarm at respective place. An
indication will also appear in LO’s Cabin assuring that the call is
initiated. The respective Galley or Pantry staffs have to
acknowledge the call and visit the concerned officers. By
Acknowledge the Call, Audio alarm will be off while visual
indication will remain. This will also give an indication in
respective offer’s cabin giving confirmation that his call has been

noticed. Once the call is attended, the RESET push button is to be
pressed. This button is also provided in each officer’s cabin.

This ensures that Galley or Pantry staff cannot reset the call
without attending the officer.

3.2 MECHANICAL SPECIFICATION

The Mechanical construction of different modules is made as per

GSL requirement. The panels are fabricated from 14 SWG
aluminium alloy.

The panels in Galley & Wardroom pantry will be bulkhead

mounting type fabricated from 2mm thick aluminum sheet.
However material T.C from manufacturer cannot be submitted in
view of very small quantity being consumed.

Door & gland plate are provided with neoprene rubber gasket all
around. The hinged door of main control panel is provided with
door stopper. The panels in commanding officer room & officers
dining hall have screwed cover.

All internal wiring is meeting ABS/IRS rules. All internal wiring is

done with Teflon wire flexible of size 0.5mm2 Grey colour.
Numbered ferrules at both ends of wire will be used & wires will
be crimped at both ends with lugs.

All tally plates are with black background and white letters, since
the complete system is fabricated using PLC. Each panel is
provided with diagram relevant to respective panel for connection
purpose.

3.3 PAINTING

The panels are powder coated with two coats of anti-corrosive

primer & final coat of RAL 7032 shade after proper treatment.

5. INSTALLATION, OPERATION & USER’S
MANUAL
5.1 INSTALLATION:

The panels are of bulkhead mounting type and are to be installed

on a suitable angle frame. Galley & Pantry panels with mounting
dimensions of 300(L)*340(H) mm with 4 bolts of M6 dia each.
CO’s, XO’s, EO’s, LO’s & Ward Room cabins with mounting
dimensions of 160 (L)*240(H) mm with 4 bolts of M6 dia each.

The installation dimension of each panel is attached.

5.2 INTERCONNECTIONS

All the seven panels need to be interconnected before putting

them to operation. The cable glands are supplied loose for Galley
& Pantry panels. The bottom plate is of removable type for Galley
& Pantry panels. The cable glands to be fitted on the bottom
plates for passing incoming and outgoing cables. For remaining
CO’s, XO’s, EO’s, LO’s & Ward Room cabins glands are fitted on
panel as there is no removable plate.

5.3 CIRCUIT OPERATION

The panel in Galley & Pantry are provided with 24V DC Hooters
with db level approximately 90dB. A call is given from any of the
five places above to either Galley or Pantry or both. An audio-
visual indication will appear at the called place. The visual
indication will also appear from where the call is given. If for any
reason, the given call is to be canceled before attendance, then
call reset push button to be pressed to cancel the call. The call
received at Galley / Pantry need to be acknowledged to put off
the audio alarm and to inform the calling party that call is being

attended. The call can be reset after attendance only form calling
party’s cabin. Thus when the call is received at Galley / Pantry, it
cannot be ignored without attending. For detailed Circuit Diagram
refer following drawing no.

6. MAINTENANCE & FAULT FINDING PROCEDURE

6.1 MAINTENANCE

The PLC Based Galley Call Bell Systems are very simple to operate
and does not require major maintenance. Routine and periodic
cleanliness from dust and tightening of the contacts be done as
part of maintenance.

6.2 FAULT FINDING

No. Nature of Fault Check Point

1. System totally off - Check input supply at terminal 1 &5 in Galley
panel and terminal 17 & 18 of main supply,
- If Okay check input fuses.

2. Call from any one - Check the respective PLC I/O terminal
place is not connections.
received at other - Tighten the wiring of respective LED and
place push button contact.

3. Buzzer / Hooter - Check accept push button contact. Check the

is not switching wiring of respective PLC I/O terminal &
off when accept accept push button contact.
button is pressed

4. Call not reset - Check the respective PLC I/O terminal

from any one connection.
place - Tighten the contact of reset push button

5. If any indication - Check the respective PLC I/O terminal

is not appearing connections of bulbs,
- If all other functions are Okay, the cause will
be only failure of bulb.

7. HAT / SAT TRAILS
The Galley Call Bell system is of proven performance and very
simple to operate. If the system is installed and interconnected as
per details provided, it will start functioning. The following format
is recommended before carrying out HAT/SAT.

- Ensure that all connections are rigidly connected as per

circuit diagram.

- Ensure that fuses are in order.

- Check the IR value between i) positive terminal & earth ii)

negative terminal and earth. IR value of more than 30 M
Ohm can be considered satisfactory in view of large
interconnection.

- HV Test though not very essential in view of operating

voltage being only 24V D.C. can be carried out by applying
500V between positive & earth and negative & earth. Since
the H.V. Test is also carried out at factory prior to dispatch,
the duration of Test can be restricted to 60 secs. If the
results are satisfactory, the system is commissioned.

- In case of any problem it is recommended to contact us

with exact nature of problem. The same procedure can be
carried out for SAT. However it is not essential to carry out
H.V.Test.

8. AS MADE DRAWINGS
“As built Drawings” are provided for each Galley Call Bell Systems.
The drawings provide essential design data, constructional details,
circuit details etc. for reference, maintenance and fault finding in
emergency.

However, if the problem persists, then it is recommended to

contact us for needful action.

9. TEST CERTIFICATES
The system is factory tested prior to dispatch. The system is tested
by manufacture’s QC department. Following checks are carried
out:

1) Operation of each component before assembly.

2) Physical check and dimensions of each panel.

3) Painting shade and workmanship.

4) I.R Test.

5) H.V Test.

6) Operational Test.

Only after thorough test the panels are delivered. Manufacture’s

work test certificate is enclosed.

For proper and accurate functioning of the system, PLC nodes need to be set as per the given table. As Galley panel has
master PLC, node address is available. While other panels have slave PLC, node address is set in all remaining panels. Each
panel has different node address set in PLC as follows:
