STUDY UNDERTAKEN
Hard and soft drugs
The NDPS also refuses to make any distinction between ‘hard’ drugs- heroin
and cocaine, which are more addictive and ‘soft’ drugs – like cannabis, which
are comparatively less addictive in nature. Thus, consumers of soft drugs are
being labelled as ‘criminals’ by the act already. They would have no legal
incentive to forgo the consumption of hard drugs in favour of soft ones since
the penalty for the consumption of both is the same.

Addicts and casual users

The distinction between casual users and addicts is an important one.
Treating them as one and the same is a bad idea. The Vidhi report flagged the
problem of a lack of any distinction between those who simply consume the
drugs and the addicts.

The legislative deliberations in 1985 while the act was being considered,
failed to differentiate between the two. More than two decades later, the
Standing Committee Report of 2011 made a futile attempt to rectify this by
attributing comparatively lesser guilt to the ‘addict’ but demanding penal
sanctions against them too. It failed to mitigate the problem by claiming that
such a provision was necessary to encourage deterrence.

The NDPS act must forgo its focus on uniformity and acknowledge the various
classes of drug and psychotropic substance holders. Treating addicts, casual
users and commercial drug lords as one and the same hurts the efficacy of
drug control measures and hurts the actions of NGOs to rehabilitate addicts.

HIV-Human Immunodeficiency Virus

36
AIDS- Acquire Immunodeficiency Syndromes.

Causes of HIV

1-Physical Relation,

2-HIV Infected Blood

3. If a Woman is HIV positive and She gave birth, So may the Child be the HIV
positive

4. Shirine Injections.

So the above mentioned are causes of HIV. But there are some
misunderstanding about it which are:

HIV does not spread because of...

1. Eating Together.

2. Staying Together,

3. Connecting in Regular Chores

4. By Touch

5. Sitting Together, etc.

The very first case of HIV was found in Africa. In INDIA the first case was
noticed in year 1986, in Chennai

It has 6(SIX) Types...

1. Female Sex Workers-FSW,

2. Male Having Sex With Male-MSM.
3. Migrants,

37
4. Injection Drugs Users-IDU,
5. Third Gender-TD
6. Truckers.

The main reason of HIV is unprotected sex. It has Two types.

1- Sexually Transmitted Infections (S11), which is also known as Sexually

Transmitted Diseases(STD)

2- Venereal Diseases. Which spreads cause of sex, especially by Vaginal

Intercourse. Anal or Oral sex.

*Symptoms of HIV.....

The window period of HIV is minimum Three Months. After getting affected
by HIV the person suffers by blue rabbies.

Major symptoms..

 Fever.

 Headache,

 Rashes,

 Sore throat, Rapid Weight

 Loss,

 Memory Loss,

How to Prevent HIV

 Use condoms during sex,

 Don't do Unprotected Sex. Make sexual relation with one partner only

 Be loyal to your partner

38
 Don't Use Unused Syringes.

POLICIES TO PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT

Tobacco manufacturers need to be held responsible for the extreme amounts

of waste that their products create and to facilitate the environmentally safe
disposal of their products — both combustible and electronic. Strong local
regulations coupled with financial penalties to reduce the amount of e-
cigarette waste are needed to reduce the negative environmental
consequences from their products. Increasing consumer awareness of the
environmental toxicity and dangers posed by discarding cigarette and e-
cigarette related waste into landfills and encouraging smokers and vapers to
quit using these products altogether are the best ways to protect the
environment from tobacco product waste.

39
OBSERVATION

We had one month memorable internship which covered four subjects i.e.
1. Tobacco
2. Rehab
3. migrant and
4. slum.
These four subjects we learn and explain to others in one month.

In Tobacco we have included some topics related to tobacco like section

4,5,6,7,8,9,10 etc of COTPA Act. we also organized some programs on 18th
and 26th we do an event in industries of GIDC Makarpura and Ranoli
employees of the industry and workers in the industry from their bad
addiction to tobacco in front of them and how to grow up from this bad things
and our theme is "drive for tobacco free workplace".

Somnath on 27th this event was also going on. On 28th we went to the cheeks
and made people aware of their addiction worse than tobacco and case and
also gave a dustbin that you should collect or collect all the cigarette buds in
the dustbine , for the survey in a week that how many cigarette that, people
smoke cigarettes?

On 31st, we inspired people by flash mob also to quit and save bad habit of
tobacco and other things. How much damage is done to the environment. In
Migrants what is the difference between HIV and AIDS. What causes of HIV,
what is the major symptoms of HIV and in the slum, we helped and supported
the rescues living in the slum area. And during the internship time, I enjoyed
and learn very much in the paper work that how to draft a report, press note

40
and press release and also fair to meet new people and make new friends .

CONCLUSION
Slum Dwellers in India- Fulfilling Daily Need is a Challenge
Slum dwellers in India regularly deals with problems such as lack of clean
water, constant migration at slums, no sewage or waste disposal facilities,
pollution, and unsanitary living conditions. High levels of pollution, lack of
basic needs, and room-crowding are some of the basic characteristics of slum
housing.

India is a third largest country that suffers from poverty, malnutrition,

diseases, unhealthy conditions, and more in Indian slums, which is alone
responsible for more deaths of children than any other country in the world.
Because of the dramatic rise of slums after independence, India’s population
has tripled. Most of the population is currently are slum dwellers in India.

During the last two decades; migration from villages and small towns to
metropolitan areas has increased tremendously in India. It leads to the
degradation of urban environmental quality and sustainable development,
especially in metropolitan cities. Every year, hundreds of thousands of men,
women, and children die worldwide, and India alone is responsible for 25% of
the deaths.
