    Topic – Factual description of an event

    Note : Do this work in your English pratice notebook.

    Important points to remember:

    1. Use simple past tense to describe the past event.


    2. Use the following synopsis to write the factual
    description of an event:
    Synopsis:
    1. Write the heading.
    2. When and where did the event take place?
    3. Who were the invitees?
    4. How was the venue decorated,?
    5. What were the activities held and how did the
    activities take place? / How was the event
    celebrated?
    6. Did everyone enjoy the event?
    7. Closing line.

    Question 1. . Environment week celebration is held in
    your school every year. Write a factual description
    of Environment Week event held in your school last
    year.
    Ans . Environment Week Event
    Last year in the month of July ,our school celebrated
    environment week. It was a week long celebration.
    The school was decorated with banners and placards
    to spread awareness to protect the environment. On
    the first day, our Headmistress Madam inaugurated
    the function. She gave a speech on the importance of
    protecting our environment. The main purpose of the
    celebration was to spread awareness about the need
    to protect the environment and the ways to do it. In
    the other days of the week , we had different
    activities like poster making competition, debates,
    quiz etc. The ‘Best out of Waste’ activity was the
    centre of attraction. The students used waste
    material to showcase their creativity . On the last
    day , many cultural programmes were organised
    that included a very interesting play on the theme
    ‘Mother Earth’ which was highly applauded by all .
    Finally the environment week was concluded after a
    tree plantation drive. The Environment Week event
    was a success. We all participated in the event with
    full zeal and enjoyed a lot.

    Question 2 You celebrated your birthday last Sunday.


    Write a factual description about it.
    Ans. My Birthday Party
    I celebrated my 10th birthday last Sunday. I
    celebrated it at my home with my family members,
    friends and relatives. I wore a nice pink dress for the
    birthday party. My brother decorated the house with
    colourful ribbons and balloons. My mother prepared
    a nice chocolate cake for my birthday. The party
    started in the evening. I cut the birthday cake and
    everyone sang the birthday song for me. They all
    wished me a happy birthday and presented me lots of
    gifts. Everyone was in a joyful mood. Then we all
    friends sang songs and danced together. Everyone
    had dinner at around 10 p.m. and then the party
    was over . Later on , I opened all my gifts and felt
    delighted to see the lovely gifts. This day was one of
    the happiest days of my life.

    Question 3 Describe the fancy dress competition that


    you recently had in your school.
    Ans. Fancy dress Competition
    A fancy dress competition was organised in our
    school last month. The theme of the competition was
    ‘ Famous Personalities’. The students of different
    classes participated in the fancy dress competition. A
    stage was set and the students were asked to appear
    on the stage in their respective fancy dresses. They
    displayed their beautiful outfits on the stage. The
    boys and girls adopted the dresses of famous
    personalities and each participant spoke a few lines
    about the character. The boys taking part in the
    competition adopted the dresses of Pandit Jawaharlal
    Nehru, Shivaji, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Netaji Subhash
    Chandra Bose and many other personalities. The girls
    adopted the dresses of Rani Lakshmi Bai, Indira
    Gandhi, Nur Jahan, Mother Teresa etc. The judges
    adjudged the dresses of Shivaji, Rani Lakshmibai and
    Lal Bahadur Shastri as the best three and the
    students were awarded prizes. All the spectators
    started clapping loudly. It was a great event.

    Question-4.How did you celebrate your parents'


    wedding anniversary ?

    Ans- Last Saturday ,I celebrated wedding anniversary


    of my parents. It was a memorable day for my family.
    We threw a surprise party for them. We did the
    arrangements for the party .We invited our family
    members also. They started their day with God's
    blessings. We gave a gift to them. In the evening
    ,they cut a pineapple cake and danced with each
    other. We served their favourite food to them. I
    touched the feet of my parents. My parents were
    very happy .They thanked us for making their day
    memorable.
