D. ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS

1. Discuss the effects of deforestation on the following.

(a)Wild animals = Plant and tress are the habitat and food for wild animals. So cutting of trees destroy the natural
habitat of wild animals and thus they would become endangered species.

Ans. There would be no shelter and food for animals and they will have to shift in urban areas.

(b)Environment = Deforestation decreases the level of oxygen in the atmosphere. Rainfall and the fertility of soil also
decrease due to deforestation. As a result, there are increased chances of nature calamities like floods and drought.

Ans. There will be a lot of global warming affecting the environment, Ice burgs may melt, soil erosion might take
place which would leave the land unfertile.

(c) Villages (Rural areas) = Most of the agriculture is done in rural areas. When trees and plants (deforestation) are
cut down, it leads to change in soil properties.

Ans. Villagers will be short of the supplies they need from the forests, and they might face animal attacks as the
shelter of the animals will be cut down.

(d)Cities (Urban areas) = In cities there runs more factories and automobiles. So, deforestation will pollute the
environment and hence the life in cities will not be healthy for living.

Ans. It would get very hard for the people to breathe and due to pollution, many more new diseases might take
birth.

(e) Earth = Deforestation leads to the increase of natural calamities like flood and drought. Deforestation leads to
increase in temperature of earth causing global warming. Less trees would result in more soil erosion.

(f) The next generation. = Deforestation leads to the climatic changes which has a great effect on the next
generations. The environment becomes polluted. So the next generation would not be as prosperous as previous
one.

2. What is red Data Book?

Answer - Red Data Book is the source book which keeps a record of all endangered animals and plants. There are

chances of natural calamities such as floods and drought.
(b ) the habitat of an animals is disturbed

If the habitat of an animals is disturbed, some of the species do not get appropriate food and shelter and with the
passage of time they will come under the category of endangered species.
(c) the top layer of soil is exposed?

If the top layer of the soil is exposed, the soil has less humus and become less fertile. Gradually, the soil has less
deserts. It is called desertification.
