Overview
This collaborative module for outcomes-based and flexible learning in the
Professional Conduct and Ethical Standards (CCRF4 22) is particularly designed for
use by students via independent learning strategies. The lessons are delivered every
meeting for 18 weeks or equal to 54 hours, as recommended by the Commission on
Higher Education (CHED). The topics are clearly defined using questions that include
the goals, objectives, methods to be used, tasks to be done, problems to be solved,
related questions for board examinations, and others.
This module contains different lessons. There's Self-Test (Pre-Test and Post-
Test) in this section, exercises, task sheets that need to be completed. Self-check
activities and assessments will be answered by students and these should be directly
sent to the professor online. After each lesson, students are provided with resources for
further readings.
In case there is a chance to meet during Face-to-Face session, groupings can
be made and discussions can be carried over by students. In this session, a team or
panel will lead the presentation, analysis, and examination of the main concepts. It is
recommended that each student should set out readings and share experiences. The
interaction can affect the learning progressively.

Ethical Theory and Human Behavior

Ethics is a set of moral values; the Principle of Answered Q &
conduct governing an individual or a group. Police A
ethics is the practical science that treats of the
principles of human morality and duty as applied to
law enforcement.
Ethics can be more clearly understood when
compared with behaviors governed by laws and free
choice.
Three Domains of Human Actions:
1. Doman of Codified Law,
2. Domain of Ethics; and
3. Domain of Free Choice

The first is codified law which values and

standards are written into the legal systems and
enforceable I the courts. In this area, lawmakers have
ruled that people and corporations must behave in a
certain way, example, paying of taxes. The domain of
free choice is at the opposite end of the scale and
pertains to behavior about which law has to say and

`
for which an individual or organization enjoys complete
freedom, example of choosing a marriage partner or
religion. Between the domains lie the area of ethics.
The domain of ethics has no specific laws, yet it does
have standards on conduct based on shared principles
and values about moral conduct that guide n individual
or organization. In the Domain of Free Choice,
obedience is to laws prescribed by the legal system. In
the domain of ethical behavior, obedience is to
enforceable norms and standards about which he
individuals or organization aware.
Principles of Ethical Theory:
1. Value – what is good; what is worth; respond to
need.
2. Obligation/Duty – innate knowledge; learned;
conflict situation; do good; avoid evil.
3. Freedom – Limits; biological determinism;
spatiality, temporality, loose from bond (such as
normal bond); unconscious past; social
pressure.
4. Responsibility – if there is freedom, there is
attached responsibility; moral duty; obligation to
perform.
Nature and Scope of Human Behavior
Human behavior which is also called human act
is different from act of man. When man performs an
act with free will he does a human act. He is
responsible for such act which is performed with
alternatives to choose from. It is free will from whence,
responsibility emanates and flows that makes man, a
human being performs human acts or human
behavior, philosophically speaking.
On the other hand, an act of man is performed
by one who is forced to do so at the risk of his own life
if he does otherwise. He does not have any
alternatives to choose from. He is not given the
opportunity to use his free will and thus, he is not
responsible for this act. An example of this is marrying
a woman at the point of a gun. Instincts and reflexes
are other examples of acts of man.
Human behavior can be understood best by
developing framework from the behavioral sciences
which represents a systematic body of knowledge
pertaining to why and how people behave as they do.
Human behavior occurs anywhere and
everywhere, at home, in school, in the work setting, in
church, in a social club, in a professional organization.

It is committed either alone, with another person or
with a group or by an organization. It is therefore
universal and is at the core of leadership, followership,
communication, decision-making and the processes in
the organization.
Any act of an individual person which is
considered human behavior reflects his thoughts,
feelings, emotions, sentiments, whether conscious or
not. It mirrors his needs, values, motivations,
aspirations, conflicts, and state of life. Behavior,
therefore, consists of all human activities.
Sources of Understanding Human Behavior
1. Psychological (biological) study of the behavior
of man. It deals with the overt or observable
action to convert or unobservable mental
process and states such as perception, thought,
reasoning, problem-solving, emotions and
feelings.
2. Philosophical – man is always conventional. He
acts in lie wit the act of the community. Always
go with the mentality of the people.
3. Theological – state the positive and negative
point of the European, Hindu, or Chinese
beliefs. It is an intellectual discipline that aims at
setting forth in an orderly manner the content of
a religious faith.
As to the Development of the Understanding of
human Behavior, we have the following principles:
1. Theological – moral
2. Philosophical – ethical
3. Psychological – clinical
Assumptions of Human Behavior
1. Every person is significantly different from the
moment of conception. From the time an
individual is conceived “so much water passes
under the bridge” so to speak, that in all
aspects - physical, mental, social,
psychological – he undergoes a plethora of
changes as he grows and develops from
childhood to adulthood.
2. Every person is constantly active, goal seeking
organism. Whether consciously or
unconsciously, he is goal oriented. Goals,
needs, drives and wants have similar and
overlapping meanings.
3. Every person is dynamic. Status quo does not
characterize his state since he is barraged by

`
different forces around him.
4. The characteristics of an organization influence
the behavior of the entire organization and, to a
great extent, the behavior of individuals within it
as well.
5. Behavior cannot be predicted with ne hundred
percent accuracy since it arises from the
varying needs and value system of many
different people.
6. There are no simple cookbook formulas for
working with people. No one best answer. No
ideal organization exists. Neither an ideal
person.

Concept of Human Behavior

Almost all behavior is learned. This applies to
adults and children whose learning can be altered.
However, this is not true to a newly born infant and to
a fetus in the mother`s womb. The former sucks milk
from mother`s breast through instinct. By and large,
learning is the first step in behaving. Whatever is
learned can be modified or changed.
Reason for Studying Human Behavior
We study human behavior to understand the
actions of people. Its professional analysis could very
well help an organization achieve its goals and pave
the way for smoother and more productive
relationships among individuals in groups in the
organization.
