150 FEARED DEAD IN CHENNAI BUILDING COLLAPSE
Chennai; 10th April, 20XX: 150 people are feared dead as a six-storeyed building in
Kagaznagar suddenly collapsed yesterday. Heavy downpours during the last few
days resulted in the loosening of soil in the area. The building had been under the
scanner of the authorities due to faulty construction. Notice for vacating the building
had been issued but the building collapsed before it could be vacated due to
incessant rain.
The fire brigade arrived immediately within 10 minutes of this accident. The rescue
operation started in a hurry but provided timely and responsible help to the victims.
In spite of this, 100 dead bodies have been admitted to the nearby government
hospital. It is feared that 40 – 45 people might still be trapped inside the debris and
the rescue team is constantly working to search for them. The fire- brigade is being
assisted by local young volunteers from various non-governmental organisations.
The assistance of the army has been sought to find out the people who are buried
inside the debris.
The owners of this construction company have been arrested on the charges of
negligence of norms during construction. The state chief minister visited the site and
has assured complete justice to the victims.

This is to bring to your notice that the parking facilities of Chennai in the commercial
streets are inadequate in proportion to requirement.
This problem causes a lot of inconvenience for the common people and the traffic
management. Due to lack of parking areas, cars and two-wheelers alike are found to
be parked on the roadside, which leads to congestion of roads and traffic jams.
Oddly parked vehicles also pose a danger as they increase the chances of
accidents. The precious time of the citizens of Chennai are spent on finding parking
space and on traffic jams.
This situation can be improved by building multi-storeyed parking lots, which will
utilize less space and give more parking area. Use of public transport should be
encouraged to decrease the number of vehicles on the roads of Chennai. Traffic
police must also take strict action against parking of vehicles in non-parking zones.
Yours sincerely

An NGO, ‘Health for All’ organised a health check-up camp in a slum at Amritsar.
You are Ruchika/Raunak, and you visited the camp. Write a report in 150-200 words
covering arrangements such as registration, check-up, tests carried out, etc. (10
marks) [CBSE 2019 (1/2/1)]
Answer:
Students of Guru Nanak University, Amritsar noted down the details of the people of
slum area who had come for the health check-up. People were encouraged to do
simple activities on a regular basis to get rid of excessive body pain. A Blood
Pressure (BP) check was performed on every patient. After that, they were sent to
their respective doctors where they were appropriate given the right directions
regarding their health.
A large majority of people were suffering from chronic back pain, swelling, watery
eyes and high/low BP. This is a prime example of how the slums can be served
appropriately if we are interested. We need not be high-profile citizens to bring about
a change in society. It is the willingness and enthusiasm which comes out from
within that encourages you to work for the betterment of others.
