B 4b-2 Multi-Skill Development – solar in India- business analysis and its salient

features: [Year 2018]

Multi-skilled workers have training and skills in more than one area of a business. For
example, in a manufacturing environment, multi-skilled workers may receive training in
all aspects of building product, as well as the ability to perform quality inspections.
Similarly in solar portfolio, he may receive training in all aspects of solar project
including foundation, erection of panels, cabling, quality and much more sustainability
aspects of the projects. Such accommodations allow a firm to move workers where
they're needed from one area to another. Company’s cross-train employees to increase
productivity and reduce labour costs.

Multi-skilling: The training of a single employee in multiple skill-sets. Another definition

regards labour unions and their structure, which promotes workers who have a range of
skills or knowledge for working on several different projects, which may or may not be a
part of the worker's technical job description. This increases productivity and cuts the
bottom line for a company, which does not have to hire additional personnel to do other
jobs.

Flexibility A company with multi-skilled employees has a flexible workforce, which

provides the employer with the ability to schedule and arrange workers to best suit the
needs of the business.

Decreased Labour Costs A business with a multi-skilled labour force can operate with
a reduced number of employees necessary to conduct business. This results in fewer
idle work hours, which reduces the cost to the business owner.

Efficiency in Planning: Planning and scheduling workers can make changes to the
production schedule to meet customer demand without a loss of productivity. In a
business with a flexible workforce, planning and scheduling activities can always focus
on the needs of the customer and not the capabilities of the staff.

Employee Satisfaction Multi-skilled workers are not threatened by obsolescence when

new technology changes the method of production, as workers used to learning new
skills consistently can adapt to changes in production. Employee satisfaction improves
morale in a business, which leads to increases in productivity and employee retention
rates.
