through physical activities.

- P.E is a planned sequential instruction that promotes lifelong physical activity. It is
designed to develop basic movement skills, sport skills, and physical fitness as well as to
enhance mental, social and emotional abilities

- P.E is an integral part of the education program designed to promote the optimum
development of an individual physically, emotionally, mentally and socially through total
body movements in the performance of properly selected physical activities

Physical Education should pursue the following:

 Improvement and maintain of physical fitness


 Enhance of critical thinking
 Further development and refinement of skills in sports, dance and recreation
 Better understand of oneself and others for effective living.
 Appreciation more of skillful performance, good health, and qualities.
 Awakening the sense of nationalism and appreciation of one’s cultural heritage through the
revival and preservation of indigenous games, dances and sports

OBJECTIVE OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION

 PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT
- An individual who participates actively will develop and maintain a high level of physical
fitness
 SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
- Participation of an individual in different physical activities, they have the opportunities for
the development of desirable social traits needed for adjustment to the social life in
general
 EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- The informal nature of physical education is such that they provide relaxation and relief
from strain and tensions of schoolwork, and opportunities for self-expression and
emotional mastery.
 MENTAL DEVELOPMENT
- The individual develops his/her mental capacities as he/she learns the mechanical
principles underlying movements

LEGAL BASIS

 REPUBLIC ACT NO. 5708


- “The Schools Physical Education and Sports Development Act of 1969”
- Also provide that integrated physical education and school sports and physical fitness
program shall remain part of the basic education curriculum and shall be undertaken by
the Department of Education.
 ARTICLE XIV SECTION 19 OF THE 1987 CONSTITUTION
- [t]he State shall promote physical education and encourage sports programs, league
competitions, and amateur sports, Including training for international competitions, to
foster self-discipline, teamwork, and excellence for the development of a healthy and
alert citizenry. All educational institutions shall undertake regular sports activities
throughout the country in cooperation with athletic clubs and other sectors.

PHYSICAL FITNES
- It is a state of good physical health. Obtaining and maintaining physical fitness is a result of
physical activi.ty, proper diet and nutrition and of course adequate rest of the physical body
- Enables an individual to perform up to their full potential. In reality, Fitness can be described as
a condition that helps individuals look, feel and do their best. At the same time, since what
human do with their body directly affects the state of mind and influences to some degree
qualities such as mental alertness and emotional expression.

- Defines physical fitness as the ability of an individual to carry out daily task efficiently
with enough physical capacity to cope with the physical needs of life
