Soul Detoxing

We are not a body with a soul. We are a soul with a body. While the
world is living the written word daily, we as Christians should not only
detox our bodies, but detox our souls. This lesson should help identify
what’s chipping away at our soul, and what’s getting in the way of
becoming the person that God created us to be. This lesson will let us
know how God’s word can neutralize the damaging influences and
embrace clean living for our soul.

Our thoughts matter so much. Our thoughts really do count because

what we think determines what we become. Unfortunately, some tend
to be held captive by their toxic thoughts, rather than to focus their
thoughts on God’s truth. This lesson also enlightens God’s word about
the dangers of toxic thoughts and how to replace them with God’s
truth.
Question…..Have your toxic thoughts negatively affected your life and
relationships?
To battle against toxic thoughts, you must identify and reject them. 2
Corinthians 10 tells us, the battle against our toxic thoughts is like none
other. It is not a physical battle, but rather a spiritual battle that
requires God’s help by letting God handle the battle for you.
Question…..What are some of the causes of toxic thoughts in your
life?
Corinthians 10:1-6; Ephesians 6:10-26- All read
There are four common categories of toxic thoughts. These are:
negative, fearful, discontented, and critical. Chances are we came in
thought of one of these four thoughts. The deeper you let the thought
take root, the harder it may be to shake off. You must identify the
thought, why the thought entered in your head and reject them now.
The next step in battling against your toxic thoughts is to replace those
with God’s truth. The best place to find God’s truth is in His word.
Philippians 4:8-9, tells us where our thoughts should be focused on.
A toxic thought contains poisonous material that can cause sickness of
the body or death to the soul. We will identify and reject all toxic
thoughts and we will replace those thoughts with God’s truth. By doing
this, we have to renew our minds daily and focus our thoughts on the
true word of God. Romans 12:2 “And be not conformed to this world:
but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may
prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
Hebrews 3 encourages us to fix our thoughts on Jesus; however, this
can be easily done by constantly striving to read the word of God daily
and strive to block out the thoughts of todays pollutants. Colossians 3
encourages us to set out minds on God and not on earthly things, which
can be a cause of toxic thoughts. One of the best ways to start focusing
your thoughts on God is to spend more time with Him each day in
prayer and in the reading of His word.
Our thoughts can be hurtful or healing. Hurtful thoughts are damaging
to the spirit and hurtful to the soul. They can dampen the light in your
life and you may not see the truth in God’s word. God’s word is life-
giving and the only way to turn this thought around is to seek Him and
know the light within you will shine bright again.
Your words and thoughts are powerful. They have the ability to kill and
give life. In the book of Proverbs, Solomon often writes about the
dangers and the life-giving abilities of words. He was very aware of the
power of words. As a result, Solomon encourages us all to be aware of
the types of words we speak to others and the positive and negative
affects they can have.
Ask yourself this question. Do you feel that the light in your spirit is a
small flicker? Or is it a raging flame?
Soul Detoxing is not only accomplished by not succumbing to the
world’s toxic temptations, it is mainly accomplished by surrounding
yourself around Christians who will build you up, live their lives through
Christ and lead you towards the life of Christ. These people will be the
most important spiritual asset towards having a detoxed soul. The
bottom line is that we must remain free from sin and refrain from
things that can have a negative impact on our soul. A detoxed soul can
lead you to have a better relationship with God and solid grounding for
eternal life.
