Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Science

Grade Level: 10
Date: August 30, 2022
Duration: 1 hour

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson the learners will be able to:
1. Define plate tectonics
2. Describe the distribution of active volcanoes, earthquake epicenters,
and major mountain belts.
3. Practice pre-cautionary measures during earthquakes.
II. SUBJECT MATTER
A. TOPIC: Plate Tectonics
B. REFERENCES
 TG, pages 3-9
 LM’s, pages 3-9
C. MATERIALS
 Laptop
 Projector
III. PROCEDURE
A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES
1. PRAYER
2. GREETINGS
3. CHECKING OF ATTENDANCE
B. MOTIVATION
Show pictures related to plate tectonics
C. LESSON PROPER
Ask the learners what comes into their minds if they hear the word plate
tectonics.
Have them share their answers.
Explain the meaning of plate tectonics, earthquake, and epicenter.
Let the students do Activity 1. Find The Epicenter.
D. GENERALIZATION
 In order to locate the epicenter of an earthquake, you need to
determine the time interval of the P and S waves (the S-P interval)
on the seismographs from at least three different stations. You
have to measure the interval to the closest second and then use a
graph (Distance-time graph on page 10 of the LM) to convert the
S_P interval to the epicentral distance.
IV. EVALUATION
10 item quiz

V. ASSIGNMENT
Bring materials for the next lesson
