GROUP 3 FADUMA CASE STUDY

GROUP 3
Assessment
Faduma is 18 months old. She was brought to the clinic because she is
sick and had an itching rash. This is her first visit to the clinic for this
problem. Her temperature is 37 degrees and she weighs 6 kg.

Faduma does not have any general danger signs. Faduma was
assessed for the main symptom of cough or difficulty
breathing, she has been coughing for seven days. We counted
43 bpm, therefore at 18 months old, she does have fast
breathing. We saw no chest indrawing. We could hear no harsh
sound as Faduma breathed in therefore, she does not have
stridor.

Faduma does not have signs of severe pneumonia or very severe

disease. Her sign of fast breathing classified as having pneumonia.
Assessment
Faduma has had diarrhea for six days and has no blood in the stool. We
looked at the child's general condition and decided that Fatima was
not lethargic, restless, and irritable. We looked at Faduma XY's and
decided that the eyes were sunken.

When offered a drink, Faduma drank normally. When her skin was
pinched, the skin went back very slowly taking longer than two seconds.
Therefore, we classified Faduma as having diarrhea with severe
dehydration and she has had diarrhea lasting less than 14 days. She is
not classified as having persistent diarrhea.

There was no blood in Faduma's stools, so we decided that she does

not have dysentery. We would therefore classify Faduma as having
diarrhea with severe dehydration.
Assessment
Faduma does not have a fever but she does have ear problems.
She has no ear pain but pus has been draining from the left ear for
three weeks. There is no tender swelling behind her ears. Faduma
does not have mastoiditis. Pus draining from the ear and discharge
reported for 14 days or more. Faduma was classified as having a
chronic ear infection.

For malnutrition and anemia, Faduma does have visible severe

wasting. Faduma also has some parma pallor. She does not have
edema on both feet. Faduma is very low weight for her age. She has a
sign of visible severe wasting which indicates that she has a severe
malnutrition or severe anemia.
Assessment
Faduma also has a rash that itches, this is not a measles rash
because the measles rash does not itch and does not look like this
measles rash also occurs with fever

We, therefore, classified Faduma as having pneumonia diarrhea with

severe dehydration, chronic ear infection, and severe malnutrition.
