Lesson 1 - How to access JRU Electronic Resources

WHAT ARE ELECTRONIC


RESOURCES?

Electronic Resources are materials in digital format accessible electronically.


Examples of e-resources are e- journals, e-magazines, e dissertations, e books
and the like. It supplements the printed books on selected subjects and are
accessible to multiple student at any given time (24x7).

JRU Electronic Resources comprises of the ff: Proquest 5000, EBSCO, World
Book Online, IG Library, and GVRL. These databases contain relevant
information on different subject areas in full text, image collections, and other
multimedia products and numerical, graphical or time based.

I. STEPS ON HOW TO ACCESS ELECTRONIC RESOURCES (ONLINE RESOURCES)

 Step 1: Go to Library.jru.edu

 Step 2: Inside the resources box click the ONLINE RESOURCES


 Step 3: you will be directed to a page then click the log in your JRU
Gmail and Password (please use your JRU e-mail account)

 Step 4: then you will be directed to ELECTRONIC RESOURCES homepage

 Step 5: Click the desired resources, if you’re done, click this

and log out to your gmail account


II. ELECTRONIC RESOURCES DESCRIPTION (ONLINE RESOURCES)

PROQUEST 5000 is an information


database that contains the world’s largest digital newspaper and periodical archive on
scholarly journals, trade publications and magazines

STEPS IN USING PROQUEST

 Step 1: click the PROQUEST Icon


 Step 2: Type your search into ProQuest's search box and click the turquoise button
with the magnifying glass on it.

 Step 3: It gives out results in groups of twenty. You can scroll through them and you
can move between pages with the Next and
Previous Page links at the bottom of the page.

 Step 4: When you find an article you like, click on its blue title or PDF link
Your article has tabs on top. An article's PDF tab gives it in PDF rather than full text.
An article's Abstract and Details tab provides more information about it so you can
find more like it.

 Step 5: You can print, email or save your article by clicking one of the icons in the
box on the right. Clicking the Cite icon gives you a choice of formats including MLA
8. Of course, no computer citation is perfect, but you can always edit.
Provides users with an easy, yet powerful means of accessing all of an institution's
information resources through a single search, this is achieved by harvesting metadata
from both internal (library) and external (database vendors) sources and creating a pre-
indexed service of unprecedented size and speed.

Although the resulting collection can be massive in size and scope, the fact that it is
indexed locally allows for exceptionally fast search response times. This Demand Driven
Acquisition approach allows users to search and request titles which are not currently
available in the collection.

STEPS IN USING EBSCO

 Step 1: click the EBSCO Icon

 Step 2: Type your search into EBSCO search bar and click the SEARCH inside of a
yellow box.

 Step 3: It gives out results in groups of twenty. You can scroll through them and you
can move between pages with the Next and Previous Page links at the bottom of the
page.

 Step 4: When you find a Title of the e-book that you like, click on its title,

 Step 5: it will be directed to the book summary, if you find and usable for you look

at the left, click first to check if there is a physical copy in the library if
none you may click the and fill up the request form(all requests are upon
approval of the University Librarian)

Database of encyclopedias and specialized reference sources for multidisciplinary


research, An eBook collection containing titles for board courses subjects like Nursing,
Accounting and Education. These reference materials are accessible remotely 24/7.

Steps to search and use GALE Databases

 Step 1: click the GALE Icon

 Step 2: Type your search into GALE search bar and click the search box
 Step 3: it gives out results in groups of twenty. You can scroll through them and you
can move between pages with page number links that can be found below of the page

 Step 4: When you find an Book title that you like, click on its blue title

Your chapter has icon on top right corner wherein all the POWER TOOLS are
available.

Cite- the book will be cited reference to a book, article, web page, or other published
item. Citations should supply detail to identify the item uniquely

Below the page between the first tools and the title and content it has more options to
choose from,

you can translate it to different language by clicking this and look for you
language to translate to,

if you want bigger font you may arrange that by clicking this

if you’re lazy to read or much comfortable to listen you may click this

Provides authoritative content with over 150,000 eBooks to help you build and enhance
library collections. Most of the titles purchased by the library are on the fields of Natural
Science, Business Administration, Public Administration and Education.

Steps to search and use IG Library

 Step 1: click the IG LIBRARY Icon

 Step 2: Type your search into IG LIBRARY search bar and click the search box
 Step 3: it gives out results in groups of tens. You can scroll through them and you
can move between pages with the Next and Previous Page links can be found above
of the page or you may click the SHOW ALL TITLES to get the full collection.

 Step 4: once you found the book you want to read you have two option

Read you will be transferred to IG LIB online reader

Read on App IG LIB have their own APP, where in you can download it to your
phone and read at your free time with your phone,
Helps information seekers of all ages find the content they need at the correct reading
level. World Book Online resources are available anytime, anywhere—at school and at
home and a great reference source for K-12 students.

World Book Online contains thousands of informational articles with stunning


illustrations, videos, interactive maps, research help, and activities.

Steps to search and use WORLD BOOK ONLINE

 Step 1: click the World Book Online Icon

 Step 2: choose what World book product you’re going to use:

Early Learning- resource for preschoolers and children in the early elementary
grades, developed with early childhood education experts, Early Learning offers
resources designed for easy integration into the classroom curriculum, library
programming, or at home.

Kids- The site has been optimized for tablets and features image-based navigation,
easy-to-read articles, thousands of images and videos as well as a wealth of engaging
games, science projects, and activities.

Students- Tailored for students in elementary and middle schools, World Book
Student includes all the articles from the print versions of the World Book
Encyclopedia, plus thousands of additional articles, learning resources, and research
tools. World Book Student is also optimized for tablets for the ultimate mobile
research experience.

Advance- Powerful reference tool that includes full encyclopedic and multimedia
databases supplemented with online books, primary sources, website links, back in
time articles, special reports and more.

Timelines- is optimized for tablets and offers hundreds of pre-generated timelines


across eight broad topics, which cover various time periods in history or span the life of
historical public figures.
Ebooks- includes highly illustrated, engaging titles that support a span of curriculum
areas and reading levels. A subscription includes automatic updates and revision to
eBooks, as well as any new titles that are added to the site.
Discover- offers engaging reference resources for students reading below grade level
because of language or learning difficulties, with content and tools specifically
developed for these students.

 Step 3: Type in through the Product search bar you and click the magnifying glass,
you’ll be able to learn while having fun
