Benefits of Using Online
1 Survey Forms
Traditional paper surveys are on the decline as online surveys surge forward to take
their place. In the past, marketers were forced to used print surveys to get the data
they needed. Now that we have internet, conducting a survey and gathering data are
easier using online tools. Entrepreneurs can use these ICT tools to connect with
customers and get feedback about their products or services.

This lesson will discuss the benefits of using online survey tools.

What’s In
Check if you are observing the following safe and responsible practices in using
video and audio-conferencing tools.

Notes to the Teacher

Kindly guide the learner in answering this
activity.

1. Attended video and audio-conference on time.

2. Did not use other people’s account.
3. Gave respect to co-participants in chat.
4. Was careful in sharing personal information.
5. Followed rules and netiquette in online conference.

3
What’s New

Have you and your parents experienced to be asked by a salesman about your
preference or comment about a particular product or brand while shopping or
malling? You have probably seen some restaurants asking their customers to fill up
short surveys about their food and service. These are some of the traditional ways of
conducting a survey.

Today, the Internet has been used by many companies and entrepreneurs in
conducting market or product surveys. Online survey tools have been a faster way
of collecting data from the respondents as compared to pen-and-paper method and
personal interviews. Thus, making data collection easier than ever and better for
everyone.

What is It
Unlike traditional surveys, online surveys offer entrepreneurs a way to collect
information from a broad respondent for very little cost and can be easily rolled out
in almost no time at all. When conducting an online survey, you have an
opportunity to learn who your respondents are, what your respondents want, and
what information your respondents are looking for.

In creating your online survey, it is very important to be guided by the following:

• What is your purpose?

• Where will you find respondents?
• What online tool you will be using?
• How you will collect the data?
• Who will process the data?

After learning the basics, the following steps must be taken in consideration:

1. Keep your online survey as brief as possible. Use clear introduction and tell
your purpose. Keep your instructions simple and concise. Provide the
participant with an estimated completion time up front.
2. Design your survey to be attractive, user-friendly, and well-organized. Use
appropriate and easy-to-read font, font size and color combination.

4
3. Use a mix of closed and open-ended questions wherein respondents
complete the answer.
4. Test your survey.
5. Do the revision if there is any.
6. Post your survey form.

Benefits of Using Online Survey Tools

There are many available online tools to choose from such as Google Forms, Survey
Monkey, and Survey Planet. These online tools differ in features and capabilities
that they offer for free and paid subscription. Using free or paid versions will give
you the following benefits of using online survey tools:

1. High response rate. Respondents can answer your survey on their most
convenient time using their own device bringing a high response rate.
2. Minimal cost. There are lots of online survey tools which offer creating your
survey fast, affordable, or even for free.
3. Convenient to use. Respondents can answer your survey on their own
schedule and can even have flexibility in completing the survey.
4. Real-time access. Because information is being gathered automatically, you
can get results in real-time and analyze data any time.
5. Flexibility of design. The order of the questions can be changed, or questions
can be skipped, depending on the restrictions you set. This way, a survey
can be personalized to each respondent as he or she proceeds.

What’s More
Put a check (/) mark if the following state the benefits of using online survey tools in
conducting surveys and cross (x) if not. Write your answer in your notebook.

1. Get results in real-time

2. Minimal costs
3. Inability to reach remote areas
4. Easy to use by the respondents
5. Saves time
6. Respondents may lack computer skills to be able to respond effectively
7. More flexible
8. Automation in data input and handling
9. Clarifying instructions may be difficult to conduct online
10. Can be developed in less time

5
What I Have Learned

• Surveys help entrepreneurs to connect to customers and clients and get

feedback about products and services they offer.
• Online surveys are done through the internet using online survey tools like
Google Forms, Survey Monkey, and Survey Planet. These are a great option for
entrepreneurs and companies who would like to conduct surveys because
they have high response rate, they are cheaper, convenient to use, you get
results faster, and less time consuming.

What I Can Do
You and your family dined to your favorite fastfood restaurant. After eating your
meals, an employee asks you to answer their online survey using the link posted in
the store. What do you think are the benefits that will be derived by that restaurant

8. Online surveys minimize the margin of error involved in data
collection.
9. There are costs involved in postage, printing, and a travel
allowance for interviewees.
10. Online survey tools offer appealing options for questionnaire
design.

Lesson
Preparing Online Survey
2 Forms
In the previous lesson, you have learned that there are different online survey tools
that can be used in preparing an online survey. These are Google Forms, Survey
Monkey and Survey Planet. In this lesson, you will learn the steps in preparing survey
questions and survey form.

7
What’s New

Here is an example of an online survey form specifically, a school website survey

form.

In creating online survey form, it is important to be familiarize with the online tool
you are going to use. In this lesson, you will learn how to prepare your survey
questionnaire using Google Forms.

WHAT IS GOOGLE FORMS

Google Forms is a tool that allows collecting information from respondents via a
personalized online survey. The information is then collected and automatically
connected to a spreadsheet called Google Sheets. The spreadsheet is populated with
the survey responses.

8
What is It

To collect different types of data, you need different types of questions. There are
different Google Forms question types that will help you collect the data from the
respondent. It is important to set the right type of question to collect and analyze the
data. Therefore, you have to understand what data you need to collect and what type
of question to use.

1. Short Answer. Respondent can write answers in a few words.

2. Paragraph. It is used for collecting a longer text and can contain more the one
paragraph.

3. Multiple Choice. People can choose between a set of options but can only
select one option. You can include "Other" as an option, and respondent can
type a short answer. It uses radio buttons.
A radio button is a graphical control element that allows the user to choose
only one of the given options.

4. Checkboxes. This type of question is similar to Multiple choice, but instead

of selecting only one answer, people can select multiple answers.

9
5. Dropdown. This is also like Multiple choice question type, but instead of
displaying all the choices, it displays a dropdown list with all the options. You
can use this type of question over Multiple choice question type if you have a
lot of options and you want to save space.

6. File Upload. People can upload files as a response to a question. Uploaded

files will use Google Drive storage space for the owner of the survey.

10
7. Linear Scale. This question type is generally used in measuring the rating
level of satisfaction. Respondent can rate your question starting from 0 or 1
to a maximum of 10. You can set a label for each end of the scale.

8. Multiple Choice Grid. Like the Linear scale, multiple choice grid question
type lets you collect more answers in one question. The difference is that the
answers are collected as Columns names as oppose to number in linear scale.

9. Checkbox Grid. This type of question is similar to Multiple choice grid type,
except that you can select more than one field for each row.

11
10.Date. This question type will enable you to collect date and time from the user.

11.Time. You can collect time data or time duration from the respondent.
