Reflective Evaluation worksheet (U10, LO3: AC 3.1&3.

2)

DOWNLOAD THIS DOCUMENT, DO NOT FILL IT IN ON TEAMS!!

You are required to complete both sections on this sheet and place the content in your Weebly section called Evaluation.

Wherever you use a quote from any other source, please say where you got it from or it could result in a PLAGIARISM
mark which would automatically fail the unit.

Task 1/2: Reflect on how your work fits your audience (U10:LO3_AC3.1)
Please answer ALL boxes in order to pass this section. You can include screen grabs and links to help. This section is about
evaluating how your work fits the audience you have chosen to target. Answer all three questions fully with supporting
images, links and evidence of audience/survey feedback.

Choose THREE existing professional versions aimed at the same audience/genre as your work. How does yours compare to them? BE
SPECIFIC.

Example 1 of 3
URL/link, image and description
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBDVLey1DIE

A forest with rays of light shing through behind the trees into the pathway. Vines and bushes are asset warped.
Something your loop does as well
Has some sort of “asset warped structure”.

Something the example does better

The swinging vines and bushes have small asset warped movements but it’s more effective because it makes the environment
feel more alive watching it as an audience member.
How you would improve yours based on this
I would probably tune the speed of my asset warp down just a little bit more, just to give more of a realistic effect.

Example 2 of 3
URL/link, image and description
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIzstR4n1ak

A haunted house in the blue-lit evening, pumpkins and golden orange leaves can be seen.
Something your loop does as well
Includes a character which is supposed to represent a ‘ghost’.

Something the example does better

The ghost has a bit of a transparency to it which blends nicely with the rest of the atmosphere going on in the loop.

How you would improve yours based on this

Scrap solid colours, unless you are going for a different style of animation. Add an outer white glow and put some transparency
in the middle to give it a more realistic illusion.

Example 3 of 3
URL/link, image and description
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5KAN9_CzSA
A coffee shop set in the Christmas blue-lit evening with festive illuminated lights and signs. Snow falling slowly and softly from the sky.
Something your loop does as well
Has windows with alpha channels.

Something the example does better

The loop has windows which are more detailed as in you can see inside the room and what is happening.

How you would improve yours based on this

Even if I have a little window in my next project, add a detail which will confirm to the audience that they are staring through a
window.

Results and reflection of your survey

Show evidence of your audience feedback and reflect on what it tells you.
Show evidence of your survey results here (screen grabs/graphs/urls/Youtube comments/other)
I also published my form on my Instagram story to reach a wider audience, however, only 1 out of 86 of my followers who saw the
story answered the form.
What patterns or trends did you notice from your audience feedback?
For the first question mentioning what my audience liked about my loop, almost a third of the audience that answered my form,
picked up on my ‘asset warp figure’.

For the third question mentioning what my audience would do differently with my loop, over a quarter of the audience that
answered my form mentioned my background and its quality.

What did you learn from thinking about this?

The asset warped structure proved to be popular and I’m glad about this as I thought it looked pretty cool in the background. I also
learned that I should pick a background with a higher resolution the next time I do a similar or same project.
How might you make improvements to your work based on what you’ve learnt from your audience? Be specific
I would improve my character designs, I must admit I didn’t make this my top priority this entire project but I realise that a lack of
character design could compromise the entire loop in terms of it’s atmosphere.

Conclusions on your audience feedback

Based on what you’ve learnt above, write about whether your feel your work is fit for your specific audience overall.
Remember to say why and prove it
I feel that my project is definitely on the right lines, in terms of what I intended for my audience going into this project. I just think
certain elements like the stop-motions, character design and background could be greatly elevated to give my project more
sharpness.
These character designs I would like to improve. My audience said in question three on my survey that they would like to improve
the ‘ghost’ design and see more characters within this project. For the stickman (top picture), next time I would like to re-make
them into an actual person and give it some shading to match the darkness of world. For the ghost (bottom picture), I want to add
some transparency to it’s body, not fully but enough so that it gives a proper impression of what a ghost looks like in this world.
Also, give it’s stroke a glow to make it seem supernatural and match this world’s vibrant side.

Task 2/2: Reflect on your own skills, processes and personal development (U10:LO3_AC3.2)
Please answer ALL sections fully in order to pass this section. You can include screen grabs and links to help. This section is
about how you feel your creative abilities and processes have improved during this assignment. Answer all sections fully
with supporting images (including your own screen grabs: CMD+SHIFT+4), links and any other evidence you feel is relevant

Talk about three issues you had during production. These could be based on practical parts of the work, supporting tasks
such as research or even audience surveys.

1. Saving different parts in one layer.

2. Trying to follow colour theory.

My computer took almost an hour to load After Effects in the last week therefore had to upload loop to YouTube
3.
immediately due to loss of time.

How/to what degree were you able to resolve each issue?

I realised the mistake I made with making different stuff in the same layer and I corrected this mistake by taking
1.
out some features and moving them into their own new layer so I edit them separately.
I avoided using bright colours like red and white to prevent disturbing the environment so I switched props to
2.
darker colours such as purple and grey.
There was nothing I could do to improve the performance of my computers. I just needed to play the waiting
3.
game and wait until my work was properly saved and published. It was annoying but it had to be done.

Write about at least three things which well during the whole process?
Talk about what you felt went particularly well about them.
Adding the asset warp to the main loop. I made it move in four different ways for each set leading up until to two-
1. minute mark and it was a great addition to my ambient loop in my opinion as it just added to the eerie
atmosphere.
The tweens. I’m very proud with how neat these tweens looked. I only wish now I added some transparency to
2.
the ghost tween to give a more realer illusion.
Making the “walking to window stickman” stop-motion. This was the best stop-mo I added to this project in my
3. opinion, I gave it a ‘scratching of the head’ motion as it leans over the balcony and I thought the outcome looked
awesome.

And finally, write a small amount about what you enjoyed about the project which you could possibly use in future work
or assignments. This could be from research, design or your practical production process. Feel free to use screen grabs.
I really enjoyed getting to play around with the background and asset warping. Asset warping was an interesting section
of animation to learn about. I also got to learn about adding frames in tweens so they can loop in the project which I
loved doing, I could definitely see myself adding more frames in tweens for future animation projects.

I would’ve liked to added more atmospheric effects such as fog and rain in After Effects, however, I didn’t have enough
time to do that because all my remaining time went into making sure my work was published after my class computer
had nearly crashed. I’m disappointed with that aspect of production but I’m proud of work I had beforehand. In the
future I would like to follow a stricter schedule to when I’m creating stop-motions and tweens, as well as adding effects
before uploading my final work to YouTube, that way I’ll be comfortably ahead of the project.
