The Phonoaudiology.

Phonoaudiology as a discipline:

Communication is getting to share something of ourselves, emotional and rational quality that
arises from getting in touch with others, Phonoaudiology being a discipline whose purpose is to
make it possible to overcome the difficulties that make human communication impossible through
therapeutic techniques.

1- Death:

Phonoaudiology is a profession that, apart from the rehabilitation and habilitation of speech and
language, also works with hearing, voice and orofacial motor skills, so its field of study goes from
Health to Education treating all communication pathologies. .

2- Areas:

Areas are understood to be the fields of study covered by said profession.

2.1. Speech.

Defined as the faculty or capacity to communicate verbally between human beings, it is the
individual act by means of which a person makes use of a language in order to communicate.
Elaborating a message according to the conventional grammatical rules that a determined
community shares; in speech therapy, aspects such as the correct and adequate pronunciation of
each word are involved.

2.2 Voice

It is the sound that originates through the vibration of the vocal cords located in the larynx due to
the passage of air from the ribcage. Phonoaudiology intervenes in this area treating the vocal
apparatus and correct breathing.

2.3 Language.

It can be said that it is a communicative behavior characteristic of purely human beings that
requires the performance of important functions at a cognitive, social and thought level. In
Phonoaudiology, all these processes and functions are studied in order to understand them and
identify their alterations or deficits.

2.4 Hearing.

It is constituted by the psychophysiological processes that provide the human being with the
ability to hear (perceive sounds and decode them) being divided into: external ear. middle ear and
inner ear, the latter being really neurosensitive.
In the event that this process is not carried out correctly or simply not in the person, it is called
hypoacusis, Phonoaudiology is in charge of integrating Deaf people into society, making use of
alternative systems and augmentative communication.

2.5. Orofacial mobility.

In this area, Phonoaudiology studies the correct functions of the phono-articulatory organs (teeth,
mouth, tongue, palate, lips, facial muscles and those involved in swallowing), as well as their proper
development, also determining the phonoaudiological rehabilitation in case of not working well.

Communication and Integration.

In summary, Phonoaudiology studies these areas to make possible effective communication and
social integration of people who present a disorder or difficulty, taking into account their human
integrity and their right to express themselves freely.
