Last week, there was a discussion on the sewing tools and materials. We classified

D. Comparison and Abstraction

Household linens are important in the home, we use them for our comfort and to
make the home look neat and beautiful. Some are bed sheets, pillowcase, table
runner, curtains and soon.
Project Planning A project plan is a formal document designed to guide the
control and execution of a project.Careful and systematic planning is the first
step in starting sewing a project. Plan what to sew, the materials you need, and
how to go about the project.

Some Guidelines to Consider in Planning a Project

Once you have the chosen the design, list the materials needed.
Choose the fabric most suitable for the project.
Plan the steps to be followed in making the project.
Prepare the sewing tools, materials and sewing machine.

Making your own household linens can save money. You can also exercise your
creativity by producing the design that you really like. Some of these can also be
sold to augment the family income. What do you want to make? Recall the format
for project planning earlier in the lesson.

Present a sample project plan. Discuss its parts and its importance.

E. Generalization
What is a household linen?
What is a project plan? What are its parts?
Why is it important to make a project plan first?

F. Application
Make your own project plan in household linens. Choose one only. (Pillowcase, curtain,
table runner)

IV. Evaluation
Choose the best answer inside the parenthesis to complete the sentences below. Write
your answer on a separate sheet of paper.

1. (Evaluation, Objective, Project Title) assesses the finished product using scoring rubric
with a specific criteria.
2. (Material, Project Plan, Project Title) is a strategy that outlines the manner or steps on
how a person will achieve the goals objectives he or she had set.
3. (Objective, Project Plan, Project Title) is a part that states the goals that you aim to
achieve in the project.
4. (Drawing, Project Plan, Objective) is found next or below the name or title of the
project. This serves as a guide for the person to know how the final outcome of the
product should look like.
5. (Drawing, Procedure, Material) is the part where you list all instructions you must follow
in order to accomplish your project.
6. (Procedure, Materials, Drawing) is a list of all needed supplies to accomplish your project
along with their corresponding amount.
7. (Evaluation, Procedure, Tools Needed) is the list of the tools or materials that you
already have and needed for the project.
8. (Tools Needed, Material, Project Title) is usually written in tabular format, specifying
the items, quantity, amount per unit of each item and total cost.
9. (Project Title, Procedure, Drawing) must be neat and should contain comments or
specifications with regards to the type of fabric and stitches used, length and style.
10. (Name of the Project, Procedure, Sketch) should be short and concise, but must still be

What is Pattern Drafting?
Pattern drafting or making is a highly skilled technique which calls fortechnical
ability, and a sensitivity to interpret a design with a practical understanding of
garment construction. A pattern paper is usually used in drafting a project like
sewing a blouse, a pair of pants or a dress. For simple projects like a placemat, a
table runner, or dish cloth, a newspaper or a manila paper will serve the purpose.
Drafting patterns for household linen is easy. Household linen includes the fabric
that we use in the bedroom, bathroom or in dining areas which require few
measurements. Dots are made for matching seams and other construction details.
Seam lines are indicated by broken lines. Notches the V-shaped symbols along the
cutting lines which aid in joining pattern pieces.

There are different kinds of pattern.

1. Block pattern - it is made by drafting from the measurements which have been
carefully taken from an individual or from a model.
2. Construction pattern – it is the intervening step between the block and the final
pattern.
3. Final pattern – provided with the necessary symbols that will guide the cutter on
how to lay out the pattern on the cloth. Symbols for dart seam allowances, grain line,
center fold, notches and other markers are used.
4. Commercial pattern- refers to a standardized pattern, ready - made and bought.

Discuss the different steps in drafting household linens, such as pillow and table
runner.

D. Generalization
What are the things we should consider before drafting our pattern?
What are the different steps in drafting household linen?

E. Application
After making your project plan, you are now ready to draft your pattern. By following
the steps, make a draft of your chosen household linen.
