LEARNING TASKS
A. ELICIT

** Show a picture to the class:

 Shows female
Guide Questions: Reproductive Sytem
 What can you say about the pictures?  It is important for
reproduction (answers
may vary)
 How is female reproductive system important

 Answers may vary.

 Have you ever wondered what changes happens in the internal
reproductive system of the female?
Say: Very Good. Now the female reproductive system
undergoes changes normal every month and this change is
called menstruation.
 Menstruation is a
 Does anyone knows what menstruation is? normal process that a
female goes through in
preparation for possible
pregnancy.

Say: Very Good to better understand menstruation and

menstrual cycle let’s do an activity.

B. ENGAGE:
Card Sort

 The teacher instructs the learners to go to their assigned  Students will be going
group. to their assigned group
 Then the teacher will provide picture cards wherein they will
sort each card which comes first in the menstrual cycle.
 As a group they will sort and paste it in the provided cartolina.

Guide questions:

1. What made you decide that your chosen card comes first?  Answers may vary
2. How did you came up with the decision which comes first or
last?

Say: Very good. You might find it difficult in sorting the cards. In a
while we will be checking your work regarding the phases of
menstrual cycle.

C. EXPLORE
EXPLORE: Stations
Activity: Phases of Menstrual cycle
Students are divided into 4 groups and are ask to perform the
activity.

Say: posted on the walls are the stations for menstrual cycle
each group will have a representative to visit each stations and
chat down important facts about each cycle.
(attached is the
Then that member will go back to the group and discuss each description per station)
cycle within the group. The write their answers on the provided
paper for explanation later.

Station 1. Menstrual Phase

Station 2. Follicular Phase
Station 3. Ovulation Phase
Station 4. Luteal Phase

(attached is the description per station)

Guide Questions:
1. What is the name of the station you’re in?
2. What happens during this phase?
3. How many days does this phase occurs?

D. EXPLAIN
Presentation of Output (Discussion)
Let students post the answers to guide questions

1. What is the name of the station you’re in?  S1. Menstrual Phase
 S2. Follicular Phase
 S3. Ovulation Phase
 S4. Luteal Phase 1 & 2

2. What happens during this phase?  S1. The menstrual phase is

the first stage of the
menstrual cycle. It’s also
when you get your period.
• This phase starts when an
egg from the previous cycle
isn’t fertilized. Because
pregnancy hasn’t taken
place.
• The thickened lining of
your uterus, which would
support a pregnancy, is no
longer needed, so it sheds
through your vagina.

 S2. The lining of the uterus

thickens in preparation for
the fertilized egg.

 S3. Ovulation is when your

ovary releases a mature
egg.
• The egg travels down the
fallopian tube toward the
uterus to be fertilized by
sperm.

 S4. L1 - If fertilization not

taken place the corpus
3. How many days does this phase occurs? luteum fades away.
L2. - The uterine lining
detaches leading to
menstruation.

 S1. Day 1-7 (7 days)

 S2. Day 8-11 (4 days)
 S3. Day 12-17 (6 days)
 S4. L1-Day 18-25 (8 days)
L2- day 26-28 (3 days)

Say: Now you already know the phases and how many days
each phase occurs. Let us try to calculate each phase so that
we will be able to know when will be the next menstruation.

E. ELABORATION
Calculate for the next menstruation.
The teacher will give examples and show the learners on how to
calculate for the next menstruation.

Sample 1. Menstruation starts on January 10-16, 2020. Calculate for

the next menstruation.

January 10-16 + 4 days = January 17-20 (Follicular phase)

January 17-20 + 6 days = January 21-26 (Ovulation Phase)
January 21-26 + 8 days = January 26- February 2 (Luteal 1)
January 26- February 2 + 3 days = February 2-4 (Luteal 2)
February 2-4 + 7 days = February 5-11, 2020

= Next Menstruation is on February 5-11, 2020

Sample 2. Menstruation starts on January April 20, 2020. Calculate

for the next menstruation.

April 20-26 + 4 days = April 30- May 5 (Follicular phase)

April 30- May 5 + 6 days = May 6-11 ( Ovulation Phase)
May 6-11 + 8 days = May 12-19 (Luteal 1)
May 12-19 +3 days = May 20-22 ( Luteal 2)
May 20-22 + 7 days = May 23-29

= next menstruation is on May 23- May 29

F. EXTEND
Students will be the one to calculate for the next menstruation.

Problem: When will be the next menstruation if Eudora had her  June 1-7 menstrual phase
menstruation last June 1-7, 2020?  June 7-11= follicular Phase
 June 12-17= ovulation
phase
 June 18-25 = luteal phase 1
 June 25-28= luteal phase 2
 June 29- July 5= Next
menstrual phase

Why is Menstrual Cycle important?  It is important because it

prepares women fro
pregnancy.
Say: Every woman’s menstrual cycle is different. What’s normal for
you might not be normal for someone else. It’s important to get
familiar with your cycle — including when you get your periods and
how long they last. Be alert for any changes, and report them to your
healthcare provider.

G. Evaluate
