TEST II
Define and enumerate the characteristics of poetry:
- Figures of Speech
- Descriptive Imagery
- Punctuation and Format
- Sound and Tone
- Choice of Meter
TEST III:
1. What are the elements of poetry? Explain each.
Line
It's not difficult to comprehend what a line in poetry is. It's comparable to a sentence,
except authors aren't required to conclude each line with a period. This serves as a
natural pause to indicate a change in the flow. This is usually thought of as a
technique for controlling the rhythm of your piece. Remember that how you divide
these lines can have a big influence on the poem's overall tone.
Stanza
Stanzas are essentially the same as a paragraph in an essay or a short fiction. The
structure of a poem is made up of a succession of lines that are joined together.
Depending on the genre of poetry being written, these lines may differ. A couplet is a
poetry with two lines in each stanza, whereas a tercet is a poem with three lines in
each stanza. Quatrain (4 lines), cinquain (5 lines), sestet (6 lines), septet (7 lines), and
octave are some further examples (8 lines). Because it is so simple to gather rhyming
words in such a framework, the quatrain is one of the most popular.
Rhythm
Rhythm and rhyme are two distinct notions, with rhythm including but not requiring
rhyme. Making each line of your poetry correspond with similar sounding words or
sounds is a great approach to make your poem memorable for your audience. There
are, however, a handful of well-written poems that do not rhyme. These poems are
more challenging to write since they do not rely on rhyme to make them interesting.
Imagery
In poetry, imagery is very important. It is a figurative language that is used to depict a
certain action, object, or concept in a way that appeals to the five senses. Readers are
fed an arrangement of metaphorical terms rather than being told what happens in the
literal sense. When delivering a message, the imaginative use of imagery helps a
poetry composition seem even more powerful and attractive. This can assist a poet in
creating a mental image that readers can develop through their imagination.
Theme
What good is a poem without a central theme? This is the broad concept that a poet
wants his or her audience to absorb. This might be anything from a tale to a sentiment
expressed in the poetry. It would be impossible for readers to comprehend the general
goal and message that a poet tries to express if there was no such thing.
Symbolism
In poetry, symbolism is employed to delicately and tenderly portray one's views. It's
an artistic depiction of our feelings intended to keep readers interested as they go
inside a poet's complicated mind. As human beings, we find it challenging to express
our true feelings by words alone. This is because the ordinary language we use is
incapable of interpreting our ideas in a way that others can comprehend. As a result,
we utilize symbols to give our words the impact they require.
Density
Poetry differs from typical speech and writing patterns because of its density. To
make a reader feel a specific way, you should employ metaphorical language while
still retaining a certain tone and rhythm while describing a picture. Even if you don't
follow standard grammatical rules, the text will still be clear and intelligible to the
ordinary reader. It's reasonable to argue that this deft use of language is what
distinguishes poetry.
