It was awful and scary in the beginning and it pressed down from all sides. Then I saw the window.

It had green frame with rusted iron bars across which sagged a curtain improvised from piece of an old

saree. It was the white voile saree with clusters of purple flowers mother used to wear for months until

It broke into little pillow covers for sister when she was born and also coverlet for the cot; now it has be-

come a window curtain. The panes had opened outwards but I could see an edge of one of the panes

where it caught the sun and that edge was green too- faded dirty old green. Beyond that was another

green,leaves, wet and glistening in the sun,and unusually fresh and clean.

Next the tired captive sat down and was going to take off his buskins, timidly asking leave with his eye,

But another silk- and- velvet discomforter went down upon his knees and took the office from him. He made

two or three further efforts to help himself, but being promptly forestalled each time, he finally gave up, with
a sigh of resignation and murmured,’Beshrew me,but I marvel they do not require to breath for me also!’

Slippered, and wrapped in a sumptuous robe, he laid himself down at last to rest, but not to sleep,for his head

was too full of thoughts and room too full of people.

experience of America, ‘I’ve taken to eating beef, and I don’t think I’m any the worse for it. Steak is something
quite tasty and juicy. Now I want to suggest, Why don’t you people start eating beef? It’ll solve the problem of
useless cattle in our country and we won’t have to beg food from America. I sometimes feel ashamed when
India ask American aid. Instead of that, why not slaughter useless cows which wander in the streets and block
the traffic?’ Jagon felt outraged. The Shastras defined the five deadly sins and killing of a cow headed the list.’

2. Disrupted home life by conflict and disturbed mentality of the killer filled with guilt and regret are quite
obvious factors in the poem “Farewell to Barn and Stack and Tree”. Do you agree? Comment on this
statement.
3. “The beauty, the self-sufficiency and independence of nature can be disrupted by unnecessary interference
by human” Comment on this statement by referring to ‘A Bird Came Down the Walk’.
4.Do you think that poem ‘Father and the son’ just merely a narration of a generation gap? Comment.
5. In the poem “Upside Down” the poet is able to exaggerate the absurd behaviour of a person who is really a
misfit to the society. Explore how this idea is portrayed through humour.
6.”Inward suffering and disturbed mentality cannot be seen through the appearance of a person,” is this the
concept that the poet wants to give in the poem” Richard Cory “.Discuss this idea with reference to the
poem.

statement be taken as one of the themes of the drama” Twilight of a Crane.”
8. Critically comment on the behaviour and qualities of two Characters , Papova and Smirnow in the drama
‘The Bear’. (15 Marks)

11.Do you think that the speaker in” The Lahore Attack”,is able to capture the audience due to his elocutionary
force mixed with his sheer love and regard for his country and his countrymen? Give your views.
12.“Love revolves itself by the bleak intensity of pain of absolute, Irreplaceable loss”. How do you describe this
statement with the narrator’s experience in the prose’ Wave”?

to the novel.

Mali lead to their own sufferings ”.How do you comment on this statement in the novel “The Vendor of
Sweets”?

statement with reference to the novel ‘Bringing Tony Home”?
