DEAR CHAIRPERSON;

The findings from my research project are the

following;

Related to the first objective of this research which was to

investigate the factors associated to unwanted pregnancy
among teenagers of the Cyeza Sector, findings based on
data collected from teenage girls who got unwanted
pregnancies in the Cyeza sector showed that poverty is
the major factors causing unwanted pregnancies among
4
teenage girls, followed by peer influence, lack of parental
reproductive education for children, not being satisfied
with what is provided by parents, violence and starting
sexual intercourse at a young age. The findings based on
data got from the social affairs officer at Cyeza Sector,
the nurse in charge of Antenatal care at Kivumu Health
Center and the Nurse in charge of youth at Kivumu
Health Center as key informants, showed that these
causes are lack of knowledge about reproductive health,
extreme poverty in the family, violence, environment in
which one grew up, not knowing their rights and peer
pressure.

Concerning the second objective that was to analyze the

effects of unwanted pregnancy among teenagers in Cyeza
Sector. Findings on side of teenage girls who got
unwanted pregnancies in the Cyeza sector showed that the
biggest effect of unwanted pregnancies among teenagers
is being stigmatized and rejected by the family, followed

5
by being in depression and family conflict, followed by
living in poverty, followed by dropping out of school,
followed by having health problems or for the child. On
side of key informants, it was showed that effects of
unwanted teenage pregnancies in Cyeza sector are
abandonment by family, depression, AIDS and other
sexually transmitted diseases, dropping out of school,
living in poverty, take responsibility at a young age,
distrust and hatred.

DEAR CHAIRPERSON
Based on the research findings, the research objectives
were achieved and found that uwanted pregnancies
among teenagers of the Cyeza sector is a big problem that
requires interventions from various agencies in various
angles to develop variety of programs which require
multidisciplinary implementing teams, including
government agencies, communities and parents.

6
Therefore, I ended my research by providing the
following recommendations;

 Teenagers in Cyeza sector in particular and in

Rwanda in general should avoid the influence of
misbehaving peers to avoid peer pressure and try to
be content with what parents give them instead of
waiting for those who deceive them and make them
getting unwanted pregnancies.
 Parents should take responsibility for their children's
education by giving them regular time to discuss
various topics including SRH, managing their
behavior and relationships.
 Rwandan government and its agencies should:

 develop guidelines with specific key messages on

reproductive health issues for parents to provide them
with adequate information on SRH and facilitate
communication between parents and children.

7
 strengthen programs that help people to overcoming
poverty
 support the community programs that empower
teenage girls to protect themselves and allow them to
continue their education though getting pregnant
while still in school.

DEAR CHAIRPERSON
This is the end of my presentation and I ensure that I will
take into considerations your corrections and advices.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR KIND ATTENTION!!!
