CLASSROOM your chair correctly and let’s start our lesson today by
ARRANGEMENT saying Al-Basmalah

T: What is our lesson now?

DEFINITION OF THE SIMPLE PAST TENSE


The simple past tense, sometimes called the
preterite,it is used to talk about a completed action in
a time before now.

Simple Past Tense


Verbal Sentence
Positive                    : Subject + Verb 2
Negative                  : Subject + did not + Verb 1
GIVING THE Interrogative           : Did + Subject + Verb 1
TEACHING
MATERIAL EXAMPLES :
 He lived in California in 1976.
 He didn’t live in California in 1976.
 Did he live in California in 1976 ?

Nominal Sentence
Positive                   : Subject + was / were + C
Negative                 : Subject + was / were + not + C
Interrogative          : was / were + Subject + C

EXAMPLES:
 I was a child.
 I wasn’t a child

Usage
 used to represent an event that happened in
the past

T: There are 2 types of verbs in simple past tense


Regular and Irregular Verb.

Regular Verb
This verb is predictable and the simple past form and past
participle are sufficiently ended-ed to the infinitive to
form the regular verb.

 If the verb ends in -e, then just add -d.


For example :
 Die -> died
 Close -> closed
 If the verb ends in -y, then remove -y and replace
it by -ied.
For example :
 Hurry -> hurried
 Carry -> carried
 If the verb ends with vowels and consonants, the
consonant is duplicated and added with -ed.
For example :
 Stay -> stayed
 Play -> played

Irregular Verb
This verb not predictable and has no end-ed behind
the invinitive.
For Example :
 Take Took Taken
 Say Said Said
 Sing Sang Sung

T: Great ! Now we will play a game about simple past
tense,the name of the game is “Irregular Verb Bingo”

(Students are given Bingo cards with irregular past


simple verbs. the teacher calls out the base form of a
verb and the students have to cross the past simple
form before marking it on their card.as soon as a
student has marked all the verbs on their card they
shout “BINGO”)

T: I have some paper on my hand right ?,all this paper


is irregular verbs,I will mention all irregular verbs on
this paper, then if I say “Drank” then you need to
cross “Drink”,Okay another example. if I say “Bought”
then you give mark on your card where there is a
word “Buy” !

T: And if you cross all the three squares,you raise your
hand and said “BINGO” ! you understand ?

T: This Tense is very important because it tells us the


actions that happened in the Past. So when we tell
GIVING CONCLUSION others about our life's story we cannot speak without
using this Tense.

T: Alright guys, Maybe that’s all for our lesson today,


don’t forget to study hard, pray to ALLAH SWT, and
CLOSING the last, the most important “Yesterday is a History,
Today is a gift, forget yesterday, so don’t waste your
time now, for a better tomorrow.”
