Lesson idea implementation:

To start the lesson, we will read my digital story, Seasons with Stella, as a class to show the
students what a digital story looks like and remind and inform them about each of the
seasons and their characteristics. Then, the students will create their own digital story,
applying what they have seen and learned about seasons. The students will use their senses
to describe what they can (or what they assume they can) see, feel, touch, and hear during
each season. Once the students have finished their story, they will work with a group and
share their stories together. They can discuss the similarities and differences of their stories
and talk about what they have learned. To conclude the lesson, we will come back together
as a group and talk about what they learned and observed from each other’s stories.

Managing engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that gets students
actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts?
For this task, the students will be utilizing Microsoft PowerPoint. This tool offers many
opportunities for collaboration and by creating their own story, they will have the
opportunity to choose how they create their story and are writing about their own thoughts
and ideas. The students will continue to check in with their group member, discussing their
ideas and sharing their stories that they created on PowerPoint.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

By using PowerPoint, it supports all students by offering a translation and closed caption
feature. The students will be able to record their thoughts and then can translate what they
have said to any language that is necessary. So, when they are working as a group, the
material will be able to be understood by every student. You also can add pictures and
animations using this software so the material can still be understood and interpreted by
every student present. This activity and technology tool support and enhance learning
experience for students because it allows students to create their own story that can
represent their own learning and interpretation of the material. This tool also supports
representation because it allows students to show how what they have learned in the ways
they see fit and can be used to create a visual and/or auditory representation of their
learning.

Reflecting on enhanced learning:

I think this activity will give students to opportunity to demonstrate their personal learning in
a creative way. They can reflect on their own experiences and learn from what others have
seen/learned. I look forward to seeing the stories each student created and seeing how each
student utilized the technology.
