DAILY DETAILED LESSON PLAN (DLP)

(DO # 42, s. 2016)
S.Y. 2022-2023

Subject: SCIENCE 8 Teaching Date & Time: October 9, 2022 Quarter: 1

Teacher: GLENN FREY L. PEPITO Venue: FCG Catering Services and Refreshment Parlor, Binoligan, Kidapawan City, Cotabato
I. OBJECTIVES
The learners demonstrate understanding of Newton’s three Laws of Motion
CONTENT STANDARDS
and uniform circular motion.
The learners shall be able to develop a written plan and implement a
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
“Newton’s Olympics”
The learners should be able to investigate the relationship between the
LEARNING COMPETENCIES amount of force applied and the mass of the object to the amount of change in
the object’s motion. (S8FE-Ia-15)
At the end of the session, the learners should be able to:
a. describe the first law of motion,
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
b. show how a body or object responds to changes in state of motion and,
c. relate the concept of inertia to their experiences when riding in a vehicle.
II. CONTENT/ SUBJECT MATTER FIRST LAW OF MOTION: LAW OF INERTIA
III. LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References
1.Teacher’s Guide Pages 10-11
2. Learners’ Materials Pages 16-17
3. Additional Materials from LR N/A
B. Other Learning Resources SLM in Science 8 Week 2 pp 1-35
IV. PROCEDURES (7Es) Preliminary Activities:
1. Prayer
2. Greetings (in Bagobo, Bisaya, Filipino and English terms)
3. Checking of Attendance
4. Reminders on Safety Protocols from the IATF
5. Reminders on agreed classroom standards
ELICIT Activity 1: Making the Balanced, Unbalanced
a. Reviewing previous lessons or The Team A and the Team B are to pull the cart full of groceries to be
presenting new lessons used during the Enhanced Community Quarantine due to COVID-19.
Strategies: After the final round, the winner will take the groceries home. Study the
- Visual Analysis series of illustrations and be able to determine what makes the winner,
- ICT Integration win the game. (Integrating within curriculum teaching areas)
Once your name is picked using The Hat App, describe if the forces
exerted by both teams are balanced or unbalanced and explain it.
Can this situation be applied in playing Tug of War (Larong Pinoy)?
When can we say that the forces applied are balanced and unbalanced in
playing it? (Integrating across curriculum teaching areas - MAPEH)
-Introduce the new lesson
b. Introducing the Lesson
(Let the learners read the objectives of the new lesson)
ENGAGE Activity 2: STAYING PUT AND KEEP ON TRUCKIN’
c. Establishing a purpose for the lesson - Let some students arrange the jigsaw puzzle using the Bookwidget App
Strategies: of the image shown below for 5 minutes.
- Visual Analysis
- Probing
- ICT Approach

Questions to Ponder:
1. What happens to the boy in diagram A?
2. Does the vehicle stop in diagram B?
3. Based on the diagram shown, what do you think is our topic for today?
EXPLORE Activity 3: YANK ME: Can You Pull it Off?
d. Presenting examples/ instances of
the new lesson
Strategies:
- Gamification
- Collaborative Approach
- Discovery Approach

Task: Each group will be given 4 cups and cardboards and they will have to
stack the cups as shown on the figure on the left. The challenge is for each
group member to remove one cardboard without toppling the cup tower.

- Group the learners into 6.

- Distribute to the learners the activity sheets through the resource manager.
- Give time for the learners read and analyze the instructions in the activity
sheets.
- Ask the learners for any clarifications.
- Allow one member of the group to get the materials needed for the activity.
- Present to the learners the rubrics for the presentation.
- Let them modify it if necessary for the authenticity of the rubrics.
Rubrics for presentation:

- Let the students perform the activity. (15 mins)

EXPLAIN Discussion of the Activity
e. Discussing new concepts and - Did you enjoy the game? How was it?
practicing skills #1 - What happen to the cups?
Strategy: - Let the students discuss the game and relate it to the Law of Inertia.
- Inquiry Approach - Let them describe the first law of motion.
An object that is at rest will remain at rest, or an object that is moving
will continue to move in a straight line with constant velocity, if and only if
the net force acting on the object is zero (Knight, 2013
f. Discussing new concepts and - Let them watch the short video clip on Newton’s First Law of Motion
practicing skills #2
Strategy:
- Multimedia Approach

- What is inertia?
- How is mass related to the inertia of an object?
The tendency of an object to resist motion is called inertia. For objects at
rest, the inertia depends on the mass. The more massive the object, the
larger is its inertia. Thus, it is harder to make it move. A boulder has more
mass compared to a pebble. Hence compared to the pebble it has a greater
inertia. Therefore, it will be harder to move the boulder compared to the
pebble.

ELABORATE Activity 4: Sentence Completion

g. Developing mastery - Using the Widgetbook app, let the students complete the following
(Leads to formative assessment) statement:
Strategy: ___________ first law or the law of ___________ states that every
- ICT Approach object continues in a state of ___________, or of uniform speed in a
straight line, or continues in a state of ___________, unless acted on by
a nonzero net force which are also known as ___________ or
___________ forces. Hence, these unbalanced forces will ___________
its state of motion.
h. Finding practical applications of Activity 5: Think-Pair-Share
concepts and skills in daily living Relate the concept of Law of Inertia to their experiences when riding in a
Strategy: vehicle.
- Contextualization

What is the importance of using seatbelts in riding a car?

(Integrating the knowledge within the curriculum)
What value is being highlighted in using seabelt? Elaborate your answers.
(Integrating the knowledge across curriculum – EsP)
Contextualization:
How about when you are riding in a single motorcycle (habal-habal), what
do you do to increase your body’s inertia everytime the driver applies a
sudden break?
SENTENCE COMPLETION
i. Making generalizations about the
 I learned that _________________.
lesson
 I discovered that ______________.
Strategy: Metacognition
 I realized that ________________.
DIRECTIONS: Read the following questions and write only the letter of your
answers in a ¼ sheet of paper.
1. Which of the following best describes the first law of motion?
a. A body will remain at rest unless acted upon by an external net or
balanced force.
b. A body will remain in motion at rest unless acted upon by an external
net or balanced force.
c. A body will not remain at rest or move at constant velocity unless acted
upon by a unbalanced force.
d. A body will remain at rest or move at constant velocity unless acted
upon by an external net or unbalanced force.

2. What do we call to the force that will cause the change of state of motion in
an object that is at rest or in motion?
a. friction force c. balanced force
b. internal force d. unbalanced force

3. What Newton’s law is illustrated in the picture below?

EVALUATE

a. Law of Inertia c. Law of Interaction

b. Law of Acceleration d. Law of Conservation of Momentum

d. slide to the side of the van

5. Why we should wear seatbelts in riding a vehicle? We should wear

seatbelts ___________.
a. to maintain our inertia
b. so that we can sleep while travelling
c. so that our body will not move if we meet an accident or a force is
applied to the brake
d. so if we are in an accident our body doesn’t keep moving at the same
speed and in the same direction that the car was going
DIRECTIONS: Research on articles about inertia and its relationship on the
EXTEND
object’s mass. Sum it up for at least two (2) sentences and
write in your science notebook.
