COPING MECHANISM USING PROFANITY

Background of the Study

The intent of profanity as a coping mechanism denotes the art of adopting

specific behaviors in an effort to break out contemporary feelings and thoughts. The

implications of profanity in relation to coping can be affirmed when human beings avoid

cutting-edge situations and they lead to journey numerous outcomes of the situation

they are escaping. The fine strategy in dealing with the genuine situation lies in

identifying the stressors in a bid to do away with the key reasons and as a result raise

the accruing stressors or put off the key implications of the stressors to put off the key

effects. The way any person presents himself or herself can be prompted with the aid

of affect management, wanting to make a appropriate affect in order to acquire reward

(Grant & Mayer, 2009), or prosocial motive, which is looking to help others

preserve a relationship with others (Grant, 2007; Halbesleben, Bowler, Bolino, &

Turnley, 2010). Language is also key in these two self-management theories. The

artwork of coping with stress is articulated as the artwork of employing all the viable

tactics in a worrying situation.

The technique can be described as an adaptive method which is based on

secondary and primary appraisals. The coping method can be defined as the art of

dealing with stress and it entails a key process, strategy, and approachable style. The

initial profanity approach entails the key sub-categories which are employed to evade

the proposed coping approaches. The complete method can be defined as the entire

approach series which are certain to exchange in scope and rationale in line with the
contemporary stressing situations. The dominant profanity style proposes the

correlated get away from the proposed coping strategies in tough situations. The

elements of stress are always perceived as terrible and dangerous elements. The

results of stress are determined via their scope and severity. The chief stress

elements can both be perceived to be either robust or lasting for too lengthy in line

with personal flexibility and adaptive traits. The use of profanity had poorer impression

ratings on various variables, which includes average impression, intelligence, and

trustworthiness. Speakers swearing in mixed-gender dyads have been rated as much

less sociable, and adult males swearing in mixed-gender dyads have been rated as

more offensive. Language alternatives matter, and greater lookup is needed to

understand the unconscious biases held against those who use profanity (DeFrank,

2018).

Objectives

For a long time, society has seen the act of swearing as unethical, crass, taboo,

and the like. However, as inappropriate as perceived, it is commonly found in the

modern-day vocabulary. It is possible to assume that there is a silver lining in using

swearing to cope up with our emotions and, in this way, create intimate relationships

with one another. This psychological test aims to:

● acknowledge the day-to-day basis of Filipinos’ usage of swearing as a coping

mechanism

● learn how swearing throughout their daily lives shows different aspects of their

lives, especially how it works with their relationship towards our society
● new perspective on how swearing affects one's life

● how we can help people to express themselves, especially when society sees

the act as something unethical

Significance of the Study

This study focuses on examining and identifying profanity as a coping

mechanism. This study focuses on the individuals that were experienced from the cases

of profanity. The study will provide findings that profanity has a negative result as a

coping mechanism for one's own emotional status.

The study also implies that parents and teachers can help an individual who is

not in a good state of mental and emotional health which uses profanity as a coping

mechanism which further not be tolerated to do especially if each individual has different

perceptions.

Parents. The participants will consider the status and importance of knowing the mental

and emotional health of their individual students.

Students. These participants will be the highlight of the study as they're the one who

applied the findings of the study and its vitality of their feelings as profanity was used to

cope up with the status of their feelings.

Teachers. The teachers will also learn the factors that were needed to provide a

solution as it incorporates their students need for emotional and mental support for them

Future researchers. As the students are facing emotional problems based on their

individual status. The factor of supporting them as they will prevent themselves from

using profanity as their coping mechanism which is vital to handle and manage the
difficulties that they have. The difficulties that were acquired by the student which

manages through identifying the reason where it comes from. The study provides

evidence that profanity can’t help individuals make better decisions. Therefore this study

shows the importance of moral support which is significant for the future researchers to

learn more about the future students on managing their social problems prohibiting

individuals that experience stress to do profanity for coping it up.
