Design of MBR Plate
Design of MBR Plate
The Steel plate proposed as Partition in the MBR Tank is designed using Latest IS
codes and reference from Standard Indian Authors SK Duggal & BC punmia.
The proposed Plate of 3.0m wide and 3.80m Height is basically divided in panels of
0.75m x 1.25m maximum.
The vertical height of Lx 3.8 m is divided into three horizontal plates, each of 1.225m,
1.25m & 1.25m respectively from bottom. The plate is also divided into 4 equal vertical
strips with a width of 0.75m each forming the loaded panel size as 1.25m height x
0.75m width.
Input Data:
2
Stress in Steel plate (MS) = 250 N/mm
Lx/Ly = 0.789
Design of plate:
t= thickness of plate
2
f= stress in plate = 0.88x0.6x250 132 N/mm
t = 4.62 mm
Stay/(Horizontal Stiffener)
The vertical height of 3.8 m is divided into three horizontal plates, each of
1.225m, 1.25m & 1.25m respectively from bottom
the plate is also divided into 4 equal vertical strips with a width of = 0.75 m
Tx0.75= 54150
therefore T = 72200 N
2
Area required Anet = 72200/0.8x0.6x250 601.666667 mm
2
SP 6(1) pg: 23 select ISA 75 75x75x5 mm with an area of = 727 mm
Vertical Stiffener
MR= fxZ
= 2904 Nmm
Thickness of weld = 0.7 x8mm say 6mm weld required (Vertical Stiffener)
Summary of results:
The vertical height of 3.8 m is divided into three horizontal plates, each of 1.225m, 1.25m & 1.25m
respectively from bottom
The plate is also divided into 4 equal vertical strips with a width of 0.75m each
plate thickness = 6 mm
select ISA 75 75x75x5 mm with
Stay/(Horizontal Stiffener) an area of =727mm2
Vertical Stiffener
Hence provide ISA 75x75x8
back to back angles as stiffeners
