Write a reflection paper (5-7 paragraphs) about 3 important lessons that you have learned on this
Taekwondo journey. Attach your essay here.

Taekwondo is one of the most popular sports nowadays. This combative sport originated in
Korea way back thousand years ago. It has a lot of names, such as Subak or Taekkyon meaning “training
of the body and mind”. Taekwondo shared common features and ways along with other martial arts but
as time goes by, taekwondo has became more distinguished as it gained more styles compared to the
known martial arts we have in Japan and China.

This semester really was a rollercoaster ride, who would’ve thought that these nursing major
students would be kicking and punching its way to PE? I am not exaggerating, taekwondo is an
exhausting sport, well, as for myself, because I am an amateur in this field and I am far from being
athletic. But It’s a good thing I got to learn this combative sport, at least now I know how to deal with
those people that deserves to be punched and kicked in certain situations—yes, I’m talking about self-
defense, and that’s one of the many things I have learned about this sport—taekwondo is a great form
of self-defense, just by learning those simple kicking and punching steps, you’re good to go.

Taekwondo also has tenets and these tenets are viewed to be true and is not only applicable in
its field but can be carried throughout one’s life journey, inspirational, isn’t it? Do you know it’s not just
purely kicking and punching in taekwondo? Do you know it’s also essential to be physically fit when
doing this sport? Because we need enough strength, speed, agility and great discipline when we’re doing
taekwondo.

It’s very important also to trace back taekwondo’s history and follow why this sport has a really
strong foundation and can benefit you in many ways, be it spiritually, mentally, physically, socially, or
emotionally.

I have learned a lot more in this class and I could say I am so lucky I get to enroll in this sport—
for free! Even though it is very exhausting especially when it’s my first subject in the morning on the first
day of school week! But I have picked up so many lessons, at-least learned how to execute the steps
and acquired basic skills in this very interesting and intriguing sport. Thankful to have such
understanding and lenient instructor, he surely know how to handle his students well, he’s very careful
and knows how to discipline us—Kamsahamnida!

To wrap things up, I have finished my course with a full heart and I have appreciated taekwondo
a lot more than before.
