The success and final outcome for this assignment required a lot of guidance
and assistance from many people and we extremely fortunate to have got this all
along the completion of our assignment work at LUGOBA HEALTH CENTRE.
Whatever we have done is only due to such guidance and assistance and we
would not forget to thank them.
Firstly, we would like to thank almighty GOD for good health and protection
throughout the time we spend there, as well as I respect and thank HOD
department (our supervisor) Dr Dominic Tibyampasha and the entire
department of community medicine of St. Joseph University of health sciences
for their constant support and tireless efforts in empowering us with knowledge
and skills during our field study that has contributed towards the development
of this field report. We thank them for the time and efforts to make this
document complete. Heartfelt thanks is also extended to Dr. Mohamed Shaban,
Medical officer in charge and all staffs of Lugoba health centre, for their
cooperation, hospitality, guidance, teachings, patience, enthusiasm,
encouragement and useful critique. Many thanks to chairman of the LUGOBA
village and her committee and her people participated in our field work.
This assignment cannot be completed without support and cooperation from our
group members. Starting with leaders Gabriel, Mohamed and Focus followed by

BACKROUND
Health centre provides health services to the community at the division
level. The health centre occupies the third position from the bottom in the
hierarchical arrangement of health services structure. Health centre is one of the
networks of the clinics staffed by a group of general practitioners and nurses
providing healthcare services to people in a certain area. Here clients include
the uninsured, underinsured, low income or those living in areas with little
access to primary health care are available. As future DMOs to be it is
important for medical students to know the functions and activities conducted at
the health canter in order to maintain and improve on the quality of health care
delivered to the community. A community health canter is a not-for-profit,
consumer directed healthcare organization that provides access to high quality,
affordable, and comprehensive primary and preventive medical care.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES
Practical knowledge will be demonstrated in applying community health
knowledge to a rural community. Three main areas of community health will be
covered throughout the study such as Environmental Health, Reproductive and
Child health services and Health Education and Teaching Methods.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
1. ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
 To study and evaluate the environmental sanitation status of a
village.
 To discuss the health hazards of bad environmental sanitation with
villagers.
 To practically demonstrate a measure to improve environmental
sanitation

2. STRUCTURE OF MEDICAL SERVICES AND HEALTH CENTER


 To familiarize with National policy for a health centre activity.
 Study the functions of a health centre in various areas;
 To study out patient activities.
 To study activity in-patient.
 To study RCH activities
 To study antenatal activity.
 To study Child clinic activities.
 To study administrative and Managerial aspects of a H.C

3. HEALTH EDUCATION
 To give health education to std. Vi and vii pupils
 To give health education to a village community
 To be able to teach health centre staff

METHODOLOGY
The information in this report was collected through directs Visits a village and make notes
on related topics, observations, interviews and discussion with villagers.
Observations, interviews and discussion with in-charges of various department at LUGOBA
H.C.
Also information was gathered through reviewing health center documents and records
preserved within H.C
