Week 1:
Jesus and His Disciples: Witnesses of a Trinitarian Relationship

Big Question:
As Jesus’ disciples of today, how can we be witness of the Trinitarian
relationship?

Let us read and reflect how the early disciple had witnessed the Trinitarian relationship.

They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of the
bread and to the prayers. Awe came upon everyone, and many wonders and signs were done through the
apostles. All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their property and
possessions and divide them among all according to each one's needs. Every day they devoted themselves to
meeting together in the temple area and to breaking bread in their homes. They ate their meals with exultation
and sincerity of heart, praising God and enjoying favor with all the people. And every day the Lord added to
their number those who were being saved.
Acts 2:42-47

The early disciples of Jesus were like brothers and sisters to one another. They knew each other well and shared
what they have in common. They were of one heart and mind.
The early disciples exemplified their being a community of people by worshipping God together, a communion
with God through breaking of the bread.
The early disciples were witnesses of the Trinitarian relationship. Their unity was seen in the
fulfillment of their tasks. They worked together, praised God together, ate together, and shared their
faith experiences together. Equality was clearly seen in them through fair distribution of goods, which
means they have nothing of their own but none of them went hungry.
The early disciples were models of uniqueness. Though they have different backgrounds and personalities, they
performed common tasks of spreading the Good News.
The early disciples witnessed true discipleship in their perfect communion with the Triune God and respond to
the mission of making their community a loving, living, and caring community.

The first disciples expressed this in their own lives. They formed a community in which they devoted
themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of the bread and to the
prayers. They were of "one heart and mind" and shared even the things they owned so that no one among them
was in want.
PCP 11; 90

The scriptural text (Acts 2:42—47) and the Church Teaching (PCP Il; 90) both describe the communal life of
the early disciples of Jesus. They were the early witnesses of the Trinitarian relationship seen in their:
1. prayer
2. breaking of the bread
3. commitment to the mission
As disciples of today, we too are called to form Christian communities as the early disciples did. Just as the
early disciples were called together for a common goal and mission, we too are summon to be like them—to be
true and committed witnesses of the Trinitarian relationship, by our active participation and involvement in
proclaiming the Good News of salvation in our respective communities. As disciples of today, we can help our
community mirror the communal life lived by the early disciples through:
1. Strengthening our basic ecclesial communities not only in school but also in our respective
communities.
2. Nourishing and sustaining ourselves with the Word of God by reading the Bible/Scripture.
3. Deepening our fellowship with one another in our community by sharing end praying together during
prayer meetings, Bible study, etc.
4. Participating in Parish youth programs such as pastoral Council for Youth (PYC),. Youth for Christ
(YFC) etc.
5. Involving in the outreach programs of the school and the community which serve as our means of
helping those who are in need – victims of calamities , abandoned children in orphanage, street
children, etc.
6. Volunteering to help in the community development programs such as advocacies for Christian
education, health, women’s right, and many others
7. Responding to the call of caring for Mother Earth by supporting the clean and green program, zero
waste program, anti-littering program, reuse and recycle program, etc.

Tongues of Fire
 The early disciples of Jesus were witnesses of Trinitarian relationship.
 In their living out of the Trinitarian relationship they formed a perfect communal
life.

Generalization

As a new generation of followers of Christ, we are called to follow His footsteps to

become a true disciple. We are commissioned to partake the deeds that Jesus did when he was
still with us. We need to be kind all the time. We should also be guided with prayer and
guidance of the Holy Spirit.

In this case we can truly called our selves as a true disciples of Christ, commissioning his
works and continuing his deeds.

Glory Be.
Glory Be to the Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit
As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be world without end

Amen.
