Q1. Explain DTP design process.

There are several steps to follow when designing the desktop publication.

 Conception- This is the creative phase where a designer or a user thinks of an idea that can
be published.
 Application- In this phase the user turns the idea into sketches . The user uses a desktop
publisher like PageMaker to sketch the intended publication.
 Feedback- It involves collecting responses and opinion from friends experts or potential
users of the publication.
 Adjustment- After collecting feedback it is important to make changes in order to fit in the
opinion that were collected.
 Production- This is where the publication is perfected and then printed for distribution
purposes.

Q 2. Describe DTP templates and how they are used .

 A template refers to a pre- designed document that the user can edit in order to create a
publication that fits in his/her requirements.
 Templates allows users to quickly create a publication because the templates already have a
pre designed content.
 The PageMaker provides different categories of templates example; Adverts, Business cards,
birthday card etc.

Q 3.Describe 5 window shade handles in a text block.

 An empty window shade handle at the top of a text block indicates the beginning of a story.

 An empty window shade handle at the bottom of a text block indicates the end of a story.
 A red down pointing arrow indicates that there is more text to place in another location. It
simply indicates that their is more text that is not currently displayed.

 A plus sign at the bottom of a text block indicates that the story has been continued in
another location.

 A plus sign at the top of a text block indicates that the story has been continued in another
location.

Q 4. Elaborate the options in the document setup dialog box.

 Document setup dialog box enables you to customize your documents design. It provides a
rage of options that you can use to :
 Set page size- PageMaker provides a number of standard page sizes that you can choose
from. You can customize a standard page size to fit your need under dimension
 Setting page dimensions- you can adjust the dimensions of your selected paper size by
typing in new values into the two page dimensions boxes.
 Setting page orientation- select your page orientation to be tall or wide.

Q 5. Describe the four text block window shade handle.

A text block refers to a group of text that flaws together. It also has window shade handles that is;

 An empty window shade handle at the top of a text block.


 An empty window shade handle at the bottom of a text block.
 A red down pointing arrow.
 A plus sign at the bottom of a text block.
 A plus sign at the top of a text block.

Q 6. Explain the use of a PageMaker master pages.


 A master page is a nonprinting page that can be used as a template for the rest of the page
in your document.
 They are used to place contents that will appear in every page of the respective master.
 It is also used to place or insert page numbers in a publication.

Q 7. Describe four PageMaker control pallets.

 Control palettes in character and paragraph mode. You can use this mode to format text
when you are in layout view or in the story editor.

 Using the control palette in object mode. When you select an object the control palette will
be displayed in the object mode. It displays and lest you adjust the properties your object.

 Placed object mode. The placed object will display information on that graphic such as it’s
width, height and coordinates .

 In line graphic mode. This displays information about a selected image relative to the text
that surround’s it.

Q 8. Write down the procedure of performing the following:

 Opening a new publication in PageMaker.


Open the PageMaker.
Close the templates window if it pops up.
Click on the file menu and select New command.
In the set up dialog box select the options that fit in with your publication.
After selecting the options click ok.

 Inserting columns in PageMaker .


Open the layout menu and click the column guides command .
Enter the number of columns, set space between column and click ok.

 Inserting page numbers in PageMaker.


Click on the master pages .
Select the text tool from the toolbox.
Click the location where you want the page numbers to appear.
Press control ctrl +Alt +p on the keyboard simultaneously on the same time, and the page
numbers will appear.

 Adding bullets in PageMaker.


Highlight the line to which you want to add bullets or put your cursor at the start of the first
line.
Select utilities then plug-ins and select bullets and numbering from the menu bar.
In bullet and numbering dialog box select the type of bullet you want to use.
Select ok to add your selected bullet style.

 Creating a menu list in PageMaker.


Open the window menu and then open the plug in palettes .
Click the show template palette command.
Select the menu options choose the type of menu that you want and double click the mouse
button.

 Inserting an object from Microsoft word document.


Open the edit menu and click the insert object command.
Select Microsoft word document and then click ok.
Click insert, select the object that you want then click ok.
After that close the Microsoft word .
