C. Time Frame : 2 weeks – 8Hours

The lesson overview health trends, issues and concerns that affect every individual
around the world. Hence, the duty and responsibility of staying safe and protected from the
various threats to one’s health lie on the hands of everyone.
This quarter discusses some important global health initiatives that aim to promote
the health and welfare of people all over the world. Being aware of these global initiatives will
help in the easy implementation in the local level.
The lesson also educate us health awareness all over the world specially this time of
pandemic. A collaborative effort of the group through making a mini action plan will culminate
the unit.

At the end of the meetings, students on their own, should be able;

the existing global
health initiatives?

Different health trends, issues and concerns discussed in the previous chapter may be
elevated in global discussion. In, general, these health issues are among the concern
being handled by the World health organization (WHO) of the United Nations (UN). The
Philippines is among the 193 members states of the UN. Therefore our country is not
alone in facing several issues that concern our health.

 MDGs first conceived by United Nation in September 2000 at the
Millennium Summit
 There are 8 international goals set by 189 countries as a result of
Millennium Summit of UN in York (193)
 It is a commitment to work together to build a safer, more prosperous
and equitable world.
 The declaration was translated into roadmap settling out 8 time bound
and measurable goals to be reached by 2015

Significance of Global Health
Initiatives
In 2015, MDG goals were measured for final evaluation. The UN released a finals
MDG report after 15 years of implementation. According to the report released, the
following are the important points of the program:
1. People classified living in extreme poverty have a significant decrease of
approximately 50% in number since 1990.
2. There is a significant decrease in the number of undernourished people living in
developing countries.
3. Primary school rate incresed by 91% among developing countries.
4. Fifteen years ago, more girls were enrolled in primary school compared to boys as
recorded.
5. The fight against significant diseases including HIV?AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis
was also met.
6. There is a significant 45% decrease in maternal mortality.
7. There is also more than 50% decline in mortality among children below 5 years old.
8. Approximately 2.1 billion people have gained access to improved sanitationan and
access to improved sources of water.

As a student, how can you contribute to the global movement of controlling tobacco smoking?
 As part of WHO’s aims of uplifting international public health, the agency approved and
released its first global health treaty

According to the WHO, approximately 6 million people have died worldwide because of
smoking. More than 5 million of the recorded deaths are because of direct tobacco
smoking, whereas approximately 600,000 recorded deaths because of second hand
smoking.

 If you're constantly under stress, you can have physical symptoms, such as
headaches, an upset stomach, high blood pressure, chest pain, and problems
with sex and sleep. Stress can also lead to emotional problems, depression, panic
attacks, or other forms of anxiety and worry.

 Mental health conditions are circumstances that must not be neglected by


society. Though limited due to their psychological disabilities, society must act to
protect and empower people who have mental health conditions.

 A program led by the WHO to save people’s


lives from the dangerous effect of alcohol use.
• There is an increased incidence of health
problems related to the use of alcohol.

 How can you handle a person influenced with alcohol in the correct manner? Whom you
turn to for help?
 How would you handle a family member who is under the influence of alcohol?

 Alcohol use is considered the third leading risk factor for poor health conditions
worldwide.
 As an empowered champion student when one drinking alcohol, one must be responsible for
his or her own actions. Otherwise, he or she puts himself or herself and other innocent
individual at risk.

Immunization is a process by which a person
becomes protected against a disease through
vaccination. This term is often used interchangeably
with vaccination

Review your immunization history. Ask your mother if you have a baby book and check if
you have received all the recommended immunization for the following diseases by the
Department of Health:
 Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus (DPT)
 Hepatitis B
 H. InfluenzaB (HIB)
 Measles, Mumps, Rubella(German Measles)

The president of the student council continuously receives a lot of negative feedback from
the students regarding their work and study loads, Fellow members of the council have suggested
that your organization must start working on activities that may help alleviate the stress of
students brought about by online learning.
