Interviewee Analysis

Joe Steward is a senior manager at BettsHD. I was able to contact him for a zoom

interview knowing how his advance business and leadership skills have been crucial to the

company. Joe is synonymous with possessing great leadership skills that has propelled the

company to success. He has been instrumental in imparting his managerial role to the staff.

Transparency is a hard thing to find in most of the traditional workplace. However, he uses his

advance leadership skills in addressing the growing trends that provides companies with

forwarding thinking bosses who believe in the flat hierarchy. He understands that delegation

goes hand in hand with authority.

Interview Questions

1. What type of business structure (i.e. corporation, sole proprietorship, limited liability

company, franchise, partnership, etc.) does your current company have? Why?

BettsHD is a privately owned company with a heritage in the United States. Its fender

manufacturing unit is based in Ohio. Most of the customers are located in America.

However, the company collaborates with distributors from all over the world in supplying

their products.

2. What property rights including copyrights, patents, or trademarks does your company

have? How do these create a competitive advantage in your industry?

BettsHD has over 150 years of experience in the industry with specialty in industrial and

trailer products. The company has top of the self products including quality mud flaps

hangers and the class 8 trucks. The company has patented some of its highly selling

products including conspicuity tape and the quarter fenders. Through innovation the

company has been able to achieve its competitive advantage. It uses its long-term

experience in manufacturing to come up with safety products for the heavy-duty vehicles.

3. As a business that employs individuals, what provisions does your company follow with

employees to adhere to both state and federal laws?    

The company focus on customer-centric strategies across its production unit. Employees

have to adhere to consumer laws to ensure that the company stays on course with its

manufacturing unit. The company collaborates with its close to 500 employees across all

its divisions. The national wide network allows the company to work with trusted dealers

in distributing their products. Each year BettsHD welcomes 30 students to take part in

their training which helps university students secure career opportunities with the

company.

4. Why did you choose the specific field of business you are in? What other fields have you

worked in?

I chose the line of work since after being a practicing engineer for over 10 years. there

was a need to explore ways to which my skills would be helpful in managerial roles. I

need to grow in my career path to understand the dynamics of the manufacturing industry

through existing trends.

5. What should I do to help prepare me to succeed in the workforce when I graduate?

To succeed in the current work force you need to be willing to learn. Never settle for

comfort and always look for ways to advance one’s career even if it means aligning them

with one’s interest. However, ensure you are in touch with the prevailing human resource

needs in various position you consider in the company.

6. Who has been the most influential person in your career and why? Would you be open to

being a mentor for me as I continue to progress through my education and transition into

the workforce?

Indra Nooyi has been an inspiration to me and is an example of the notable people in the

industry. She specialized in business administration. Born in India, she went on to be the

chairperson of the Pepsi company. She inspires me as she is an example of a woman who

broke societal barriers to cut a niche for themselves and heads one of the biggest

businesses globally. Through, her, certain groups of people get a voice. I am willing to

mentor you through your career journey and hopefully one day I get to read about you

among other visionary leaders.

Lessons from the interview and future career influences

Business Administration Specialist is my career choice. This career provides one with

ideas on how to run a business organization. As business is one driving factor in every nation’s

economy, it is important to venture more into it. One gets better equipped at handling tasks and

taking on responsibilities that have a lot of impact on society. Also, through this career, one can

have more knowledge of business law and the management of human resources including

supervision for the achievement of desired economic goals (Ezeuduji & Mbane, 2017). With

globalization, businesses utilize technology to reach a wider audience. Also, as an administrator,

it is important to communicate with other personnel. This is made easier through technology

(Miller et al., 2017). The occupation involves overseeing the operations of a specific business

and ensuring the set goals are achieved through collaboration with all the personnel involved.

I am an ambitious person who believes in a competition that is healthy and legal. I also

have a competitive spirit and am a risk taker making me better suited to make decisions as an

administrator (Weng & Zhu, 2020). In addition, I have been able to hold several leadership

positions throughout my childhood and evident by the many awards I hold. Finally, I have great

communication skills and a strong will to take initiative. With a career in business

administration, I am sure I will fully utilize my skills and further my interests which include a

safe competitive business environment.
