LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Differentiate the:
1. epicenter of an earthquake from its focus;
A. MELCs
2. intensity of an earthquake from its magnitude’
3. active and inactive faults (S8ES – IIa – 15)
At the end of the teaching – learning activities the students should be able to:
1. distinguish focus from epicenter and intensity from magnitude;
B. Specific Objectives
2. describe how seismologists detect and measure the size of earthquakes; and
3. relate earthquake information to science, society, and everyday life.
II. TOPIC/ MATERIALS
A. Subject Matter Anatomy of an earthquake
B. Materials Needed laptop or CP, Activity Sheet, Module 2

ACQUIRE: Which is it? (pen and paper)
- Learners will choose which is the correct answer in the 5 item
questions about the different types of fault and stress forces.

PRACTICE: Quake – Starts (Word Cloud)

C. Lesson Proper - Learners will describe earthquake in one word.

INQUIRE: Label the Parts & Venn Diagram

- Learners will identify the parts of the earthquake.
- Learners will choose from the word bank the word/s and phrases that
differentiate intensity and magnitude.
COLLABORATE: 3 R’s (Read, React, Reflect)
- Learners will apply 3R’s where they need to read the selection
D. Practice Exercises provided by the teacher for 3 minutes and specify important parts of
the selection, react by giving reactions about the selection and reflect
by giving their insights and how they can apply it in real life.
