III. Introduction –
The happiest people I know are those who lose themselves in the service of other

Inspired by such sayings, me and my partner decided to take extension and outreach as our
elective. We want to give back society what society has given us. With a clear mind we want
to donate ourselves to mother nature and aunt society.

In this course, We were given two choices i.e. capacity building and service to humanity to
choose from. We decided to work for the former category. The objective of our work is capacity
building as we think helping someone grow in capability, education is greater than monetary
help. There is a saying in Hindi.

”gyan ka daan sabse bada hai”

our moto is to inspire financially poor and unaware students to make correct choices
about their future.

we aimed at providing class 10 students with proper career guidance and help them to choose
a career which is suitable for them. As during this time of pandemic students are not much
aware of their future as they are locked inside and are not able to interact with their or seniors.
Their mental health has been affected drastically, so we took this initiative of throwing some
light in their lives and do the best possible help we can do for them.
IV. Objective of work
The objective of our work is to help financially unstable and educationally unaware students
with their career selection and help them to find their interest. we aim at addressing their
doubts at personal level and to achieve one to one interaction with them. After interacting
with them we will analyse them and assess them according to their personality.

For this we have studied different case studies we have read different types of psychological
tests and their reports, what criteria they use while identifying students. We have talked to a
psychologist and gained some basic knowledge about personality, types behaviours etc.

After interacting and analysing students at personal level we will divide students into different
groups as per stream and we will appoint some guest speakers to talk to students wanting to
pursue other than science stream. And finally in the end we will provide every student with a
psychometric report.

V. Methodology
The students in our domain are class 10 students which are financially unstable. We have
divided our work methodology in some steps which are as follows:-

1. The first step is to identify the students and to approach them. We contacted a school “GOOD
SHEPHERD HIGHER SECONDRY SCHOOL, Surat, Gujrat and got a positive response from them.
It is a school in Gujrat where mostly students are financially not sound and unaware so we
decided to help them. We opened a google form registration for free and near about 55-60
students registered with us.
2. As now we have the target audience so we decided to communicate with them by organizing
webinar on google meet as due to the pandemic period this is the only mode of communication
feasible and possible. We will have some interactive sessions with students and our special
guests.
3. Now we named our career counselling programme as ANUSANDHAN which means research.
We decided to divide our entire counselling programme into four webinars or sessions in which
we will examine analyse and interact with students at personal level.

Session 1.- introductory session

In this session interacted with the registered students and told them about our counselling
programme in detail. We helped them with some basic knowledge about class 11 and their
board exams. We told them about the importance of career planning and why career planning
is important. We helped them by using different case studies and examples. We told them
about HEDGE HOGGs PRINCIPLE which will help them to choose what they love, what pays well
and what their interest is and, in the end, we gave them some useful tips to utilize their summer
vacations after board exams. This was our first session.

Session 2- psychometric test

In the second session of our programme, we decided to take a psychometric test. It is not a
marks-based test, it will help us to analyse their personality types and their strength and
weakness. For composing this test, we studied different research papers and some personality-
based tests and their reports. It takes a tremendous amount of effort, time and knowledge to
Design and analyse such a test. out of 60, 45 students registered with oust for the psychometric
test. During the time between second and third session our aim is to analyse the responses of
all 42 students and make individual report for each student.

Session 3- about different streams

In this session we decided to guide students with the basics of each stream available to them
and the various career options available in each stream. For science stream we helped and
guided the students and for commerce and arts streams we invited some guest speakers and
they interacted with the students regarding commerce and arts stream.

We used pictures, videos, ppts, case studies to guide students and give them basic idea about
different stream.

Session 4- personal interaction

In the last session, we decided to have some personal interaction with each student. As we
have analysed their aptitude and personality, so to get a more precise idea we decided to have
personal interaction with them in the last session. For this we called them in small groups to
attend the session and asked them about their goals, desires . we addressed their doubts at
personal level and helped them with all their confusions.

Now the sessions are over. So we decided to provide students with the psychometric reports
and in the report we analysed their personality according to their responses and helped them
with some adjectives with their personality. We also mention their most preferable stream
option in the report. So we have prepared 42 reports and send it to the respective students
through email.

By following a planned and defined way and in professional manner we completed the career
councelling programme.

VI. Work Set up

The meetings were conducted online on platforms like google meet and zoom. We also created
a dedicated telegram group in which the students were able to interact with us. A total of 4
such sessions were conducted on the following Sundays (So that we do not disturb their
working days) :
14/03/2021
21/03/2021
28/03/2021
11/03/2021

Surveys were conducted on google forms which helped us to understand the students better.
The sessions were generally scheduled from 3pm to 4pm. But due to the keen interest shown
by the students it used to end after 5:30 pm.
VII. Results
VIII. Conclusions

1) Most of the students belonged to a lower middle class family.

2) Majority of the students were not clear about the choices that they were supposed to opt
ahead.
3) Many students were interested academically in subjects like English, Maths and Science

4) There were all sorts of students in terms of academic performance.

5) Many students were unaware about their subjects of Interests. We helped them by
Discussing about various subjects and asking some general questions.
6) All the students were offered a series of 4 interactive session each of about 2hrs. long. All
the students are free to mail us their query, doubts or any kind of problem that they are facing.

7) We conducted a detailed session about the specific streams like Science, Humanities and
Commerce. For the detailed session of commerce and humanities we called our friends, who
were doing great in their respective fields.

• Ishita Mishra (1st yr. Undergraduate, Maitreyi College,DU) – for Humanities

• Khushi Maurya (CA Aspirant) – for Commerce

8) We also designed a psychometric test to identify the students’ strengths and weaknesses.
Actively 42 students took part in it. The test had two main sections

• Personality Test
• Aptitude Test

9) Each student is finally given their report about their performance in Tests and Discussions.
Report reflects the student’s strengths and weaknesses. Some career advice is also shared in
it which was concluded from the personal interaction session.

10) We have got a very positive feedback from the students about the session. And they were
very grateful for it. We encouraged students to try out new things and to do weird stuffs to
identify themselves. We focussed on the time that they were going to get during summers.

IX. Scope of future work

Under privileged School students in India are really not aware about the options they have
after class 10. In fact, many of them do not know that in which subject they are actually
interested in. They really need some wise piece of advice based upon their aptitude level,
Interests, financial background, family support and social need. This chain should be
continued. Every year some college undergraduate students should have these kinds of
interactive career counselling sessions, so that students get to know about the ground reality
and get inspired by some of their seniors. We have observed that the there are many talented
and brilliant students out there. But sometimes, all they need is someone who can tell them
that they are worth something. We can provide the material which they (college students) can
use to conduct such seminars along with their modifications in the process. We would
appreciate if the college students can do the research work by themselves and accordingly
conduct the sessions. Also this project helps in building junior to senior networks.

X. Willingness to work as mentor

We encouraged the students to try out as much stream subjects as possible. So, for the
Science(maths) stream we offered the students some free demo classes to get a better taste
of it. We shared our contacts to the students to stay in touch with them for the purpose of their
better careers.
