Learning Competency

 Explain color and intensity of light in terms of its wave characteristics.

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

a. Define what is light

b. Appreciate the importance of light

c. Classify the sources of light according to their kind (Natural and Artificial light)

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Properties of Light

Subtopic: Light Travels in a Straight Line

References: Science 7 Quarter 3 - Module 5, Science 7 Book

Materials: Blackboard, Chalk, Pictures, Manila Paper

Value Focus : Understanding and Participation

III. PROCEDURE

A. ROUTINE

 Prayer
 Classroom Management
 Checking of Attendance

B. REVIEW

 Let the students have a recapitulation on previous lesson.

 Instructions: Choose the one that does not belong to the group.

Answer: Aurora

Answer: Light Bulb

Answer: Meteor

Answer: Firefly

Answer: Candle

D. LESSON PROPER

To start the teacher will ask the students about their idea about light

Properties of light

 Earth has been gifted with light from the sun. It is our most important source pf energy.
Light warms us, enables plant to produce oxygen and allows us to find our way around
all day. Without light, life is possible or impossible.

 Light Is a form of energy made of photon

 Photon is a smallest unit of visible light

Light Travels in Straight Line

 light travels at the speed of approximately 299, 792, 458 meters per second (m/s). This
is known as the speed of light.
 Light travels much faster than sound.
 Light travels 8 minutes to reach the surface of the earth.

Types of Light Source

Natural Light

 Natural light comes from sources that are naturally occurring

Example: SUN it is a common source of light. Sun is also considered as a luminous body
(An object capable of producing its own light.)

Artificial Light

 Artificial light is emitted by man-made devices that would not occur naturally in nature
Example: Lamps, bulbs, and candles

Different Scientists:

Isaac Newton - he believed that light behaves like a particle

Christian Huygens - he believed that light behaves like a wave

Louie De Broglie - he believed that light can be a particle and a wave

James Clerk Maxwell - propose the electromagnetic theory of light

E. GENERALIZATION

What is light?
 light is a form of energy made of photons

 It is 299, 792, 458 meters per second (m/s)

What is the commong source of light?

 The common source of light is the Sun

What is luminous body?

 It is an object capable of pf producing its own light

Can you give me an example of Natural light?

 Sun, Moon, Star, Firefly, Lightning

How about in Artificial light, can you give me an example?

 Lamp, Candle, Bulb

IV. EVALUATION

Give 5 example of Natural light and Artificial Light
