I have here an activity entitled “Four
Pics one Word”
Here’s the mechanics:
I will show you set of pictures and you
are going to observe or examine.
Are you ready? Yes ma’am!
Here’s the first set of pictures! Properties
Gas
Mass
Temperature
Pressure
Volume
Based on our activity what did you
observe on the words that we form? It’s all about gases
It’s all about the properties of
gases
So our topic for today is all about the
properties of gases.

C. Presentation
Before we embark on our next topic
Let me introduce to you our learning
objectives.
At the end of the learning session you
should be able to achieve this following:

a. Identify properties of gases

b. describe the different
properties of gases
c. Perform an experiment to
explain that gases have
mass, volume, temperature
and pressure;
d. Relate properties of gases in
real life situation.

D. Lesson Proper
Today we are going to explore another
majestic and interesting world of
science.
Since you are in grade 10 I expect that
you already know the states of matter? Yes ma’am! Solid, liquid and gas,
plasma and Bose- Einstein
Condensate
What is gas? State of matter that has no definite
shape and no definite volume.
Very good!
Imagine we are inside the laboratory,
and we are going to do some activity.
Today let’s focus on gases
Let’s find out what are the properties of
gases inside this laboratory.
For us to understand the properties of
gases, let’s do the following experiments!
What are the properties of Gases?
Mass
Volume
Temperature
Pressure
Before we do the experimentation we
need to know the precautionary
measures.

Note:
• Safety Rules
• Wear lab gowns and gloves.
• Read the labels of the materials.
• Be careful while boiling the water.
• Be careful on handling the hot
glassware.
• Be attentive
Are we clear class? Yes ma’am!

Pre activity
In this activity you are going to perform
the properties of gases.
I will divide the class into 4.
Group 1 Gases and its mass
Group 2 Gases and its volume
Group 3 Gases and its temperature
Group 4 Gases and its pressure
I will give you 10 minutes to do the
activity!
Please be guided on our rubrics.

(see attached procedure and question)
(See attached rubrics)
Post Activity
Can you please go back to your proper
sit for the presentation of output?

May we have the group 1-gas and its

mass to discuss their activity? Presentation may vary!
Is the mass of the deflated balloon
different from the mass of the inflated Yes ma’am!
balloon?
Which is heavier, the inflated or the Inflated balloon is heavier than the
deflated balloon? Why? deflated because there is presence
of gas inside it.
What can you infer in the activity? Gases, like other matter such as
solid and liquid have mass and
occupies space.
Based on the activity of group who can
define mass? Mass amount of matter in a
particle or object.(kg)
Very good!
Group 2- Gases and its volume Presentation may vary!

will increase.
What does it indicate? It indicates that gas inside the
syringe also have volume.
What is volume? Volume is the space occupied in
any object.
What are the units we can use for Cubic meter, decimeter,
volume? centimeter, liter, milliliter, quart,
gallon
That’s right!

Group 3- gases and its temperature Presentation may vary!

of air among the three set- ups?
Explain the difference in the If the water is cold, the
temperature of air. surrounding air will also be cold.
If the water is hot the surrounding
air will also hot.
What does it indicate? The higher the temperature, the
faster the movement of the
particles.
The lower the temperature the
movement of particles will also
slow.
Based on the activity, who can define The air temperature measure how

E. Generalization
Did you enjoy our majestic and
interesting topic? Yes ma’am!
Okay to sum up our topic let’s do this
activity.
This activity is entitled mystery box!
Here’s the mechanics:

force acting on a specific area Pressure

F. Application
To test your knowledge and to apply
what you have learn on the properties of
gases you are going to identify some
object such as mass, volume,
temperature and pressure.

1. 10 kg tank of a solane Mass

2. 170 mL of aerosol disinfectant Volume
3. 37 °C Temperature
4. 2 liters of oxygen Volume
5. 32°F Temperature
6. 1.0 atmosphere Pressure

G. Values Integration
Relate situation where the properties of
gas shown.
The warm temperature we are
experiencing is from the heat
trapped by greenhouse gases.
The basketball ball that filled with
air. So it bounces while you are
dribbling it.
When you open a bottle of soft
drinks. It fizzes because of
escaping dissolved carbon dioxide
due to change of pressure.
When you use pressure cooker the
food inside it will easy to cook
because the temperature and
pressure on it will stock inside.
